This is my first post. I have a set of 16 X 7.5 OZ Racing Opera I rims. Offset is 40+ and bolt pattern is 5 X 100. The rims where advertised as being for a Legacy from a Japanese new & used parts supplier (the place will exchange if they don't fit). I have called a few wheel places and they have told me the offset is wrong. I have checked wheel websites and found most offset are between 48+ to 55+. Would wheel spacers correct the problem? I have a 98 Legacy L.

Wheel spacers would only make the problem worse as they can only reduce the offset. You'd need to machine down the mounting face of the wheel to increase the offset. I don't recommend doing this.

Thanks for replying. Unfortunatly they don't do refunds (Or seem to know much about wheel fitments). Is there a particular offset range that will work if a can find alternative wheels that are 100 X 5 15",16" wheels with width between 6-7"?

I would think that offset would work (I mean...it's only 5-8mm off from some common offsets) with some fender rolling.

Then again, I don't own a BG/BD.

That offset will work - but it will be hell on your bearings. You're putting too much stress on the outside of the vehicle.

Offsets that are recommended -anything in the range of 55-45

Most aftermarket Subaru specific wheels are +48 offset.
The majority of OEM Subaru wheels are 55-50 offset.

Does the center bore have to match? I think subaru is 56.1 from what I read? or would you need a spigot ring to match? Thanks for the help!

you should always try to get a center bore that matches. Using hubcentric rings increases the risk of failure.
