should i? air intake off an impreza

my friend is selling me an air intake off an impreza if i want it...its only $30 but the only thing is i need the pipe taht goes from the filter to the engine i guess or whatever it is...just a straight pipe and clamp it in...should i buy it?

I guess your car has the plenum where the throttle body is?

On the above pic, the plenum is the large plastic box in the middle, toward the back. The throttle body is directly in front of that box, close to the intake manifold (which is sometimes referred to as the throttle body).

^Thanks I was trying to find a simple picture on ebay of an Subaru engine bay with the plenum.

On the side note.. when I did my ebay intake I left all that on but just took the part off where the filter sits in the box.

I never saw how changing the tubing would help.

Im sure.. but when you only have a 1.8L impreza only so much you can push out from it... It made it sound a bit better but that was about it.

Subigal runs a setup with a cone filter running to the stock plenum box. She knows her fair share of Subaru knowledge and is considered a god over at that other forum. I'm not saying I like her, I'm just saying, I've seen that setup done before.

The only thing I can say about running an Impreza intake on your Legacy is be sure that the intake is for a 98 or 99 Impreza because after 99 the Impreza had a throttle body MAF meaning that little connector thing between the boxes is not there, so if you try to install an intake that doesn't have a place for you to put your MAF into your car will not run....at all.

MAF car-owners have a habit of cutting the pipe to fit. The sensor is bolted to the airbox housing, so it's just the pipe length that is usually cut.

Subiegal does know her stuff, doesn't mean that it's the only way to do things.

GTDrifter - any ebay intake will work - you might need to cut the length of pipe and possibly tap a vacuum line, but it's not a big deal. See the ebay intake threads in the DIY forum.

Thats because after 1999 they switched to a MAP setup

But I doubt I would do another intake.. I think it distracts from the exhaust. IMHO

Drag racing is totally different to daily driving. What sounds awesome at full throttle launches is bloody annoying when you're stuck in traffic.

it was either $1,000 or $3,000...i cant remember...its really nice though but now shes not selling it...i might get the exhaust for it when she gets her new one
