I believe the OBD1 connector port is quite different to the OBD2 one.

You either have a connector under your dash or you don't, its that simple. OBD I will be small and shaped like an "L" instead of a long piece. For the record, I pulled this photo off google image search in literally 8 seconds.
OBDII connectors are shaped like this:

Now Correct me if im wrong, but im sure your OBDI, OBDII was introduced in the 1996 model year, if your production date was 9/95 then you would be but since its not you happen to be OBDI

That is not completely correct. 1996 was the first year all cars were REQUIRED to have OBD II in the US. That does not mean some cars did not come with OBD II in 1995 or earlier, especially if they were already redesigning for 1995 (such as Subaru with the Legacy). No point in manufacturing something two different ways if they already knew they were going to have to go OBD II in just 1 year.

well for one thing that plug pic is a gm obd1 plug but yes it looks like a obd2 plug.. but i believe if you have a obd2 plug but its border line. the plug will have only 5 pins if obd1. and it will have 9 pins if obd2.. but i beleive all 95+ legacys are obd2..

Correct, I was just showing the shape of it, should've specified.
