What do y'all think. I decided to do something different, and go flat black. Its still growing on me, but I think I like it.

It is wet in the pictures, but you get the idea of how it looks.

No comment on that paint job. Give me your old wing.

I loved the green, and I'll be honest, the wing is a little much, but I can always dig a nice satin paint job, and that looks really well done. You're happy with it, right? :D

For my first time ever painting a car, I like it, it didnt turn out as perfect as I would have liked, but at least I know what to fix for next time. I liked the green too, but it was in bad shape, lots of dents and scratches, and worn on the top. The wing is a little much, I agree, but in Japan, its pretty common. It will fit right in over here.

Looks great. I was going to do flat black too, but the shop suggested I do a satin black. Heres how it looks.

Yeah, I wanted to do satin, but its impossible to find over here. I wonder if I clear coat flat, will it give it a satin look?

Not feelin' it. Flat black is kinda overdone...

It needs depth.

I like it. It looks awesome as is.

I agree with sybir on the wing

Nicely done!

Tough crowd, huh? Thanks for the honest comments. What do y'all suggest for a wing. I like the GT wing style, but I'm thinking this one doesnt really flow with the rest of the car like I thought it would. I had to try it for $50 though.

I'm biased, because my upgrade was to a factory option wing; I'm not sure if the same one is available there (you usally see RFRB wings) but I assume it is since the Japanese wagons all had the high roof like my car.

I tend to like pieces that more or less follow body lines. If you're going for something crazy, a Hippo Sleek wing would still be a big, very aggressive setup, but would tie in cleanly with the existing bodylines better.

And don't get me wrong on the paint, I like it, and I know that looking at a car in person, scratches and dents are much more visible (my car is trashed but photographs well); my car will likely go a medium-gloss olive/od green at some point when I get fed up witht he paint.

I like the hippo wing look. I may look for something like that. I saw a front bumper like the one on the blue car at a used parts store a couple of weeks ago for $128. I am kicking myself in the ass now for not getting it after seeing it on that car.

I like the before one, just with the 'after' grill. but to each his own, its still a very nice car.

x2...if you left everything on as before and get the flat black paint job...i think it would look even nicer

damn is that thing low... I like the new paint, but agree on the wing swap. I think the Hippo wing as Sybir suggested would go great on your car.

The flat black looks good, but that wing... you should have left the other one on.

The lowness is thanks to TEIN adjustables, but I pay for it when I am driving down the road. Rough as hell.

the paint looks good. ever thought about doing the rims also. i think black on black is so sexy on cars. once again good job on the paint. just dont wax it. it will mess it up.

LOL LOL!!! Alright, Alright, the wing was a bad idea. I will get another one this weekend. And yes, I am going to do the rims also. Just not sure if I want to do semi-gloss or flat like the car.

sybir

I'd say a higher-gloss satin if you're set on black; you need some contrast with the body. I've run black wheels, and they're really cool, until they get dirty.........they're almost as bad as white wheels, because they show every speck of dirt. Your tires will also never be as dark as the rims..... I'd go with a dark bronze or gunmetallic; even something just a few shades off flat black will set them off from the car instead of maing them blend in too much.

FWIW, if the rims are in decent shape, I love the look now. I wouldn't change a thing besides the wing.

Yeah, sorry for 'kicking a man while his down', but lose the wing.

I like the flat black though! If it was me, I'd go wingless; always thought wings on wagons and hatchbacks looked silly; even subtle ones. If you're not too attached to your roof rack, you could ditch that: flat black with no roof rack looks pretty flippin sweet.

Hey man I think it looks pretty badass. I don't mind the wing but its not great at the same time. Get the proper fogs for that bumper, some rear aero guards, and some really aggressive side skirts and it'll look really good.

the black looks good, especially for a DIY project. the wing on the other hand is just too much. i suppose it fits in at the airbase too then huh??

Since no one else has... dibs on the front RFRB lip now that it's gone too? Not feeling the wing... But since you already have it, I've wondered how such a wing would look if the end plats mated up right next to the side of the car (basically hack a few inches off the ends and reattach)

I liked your car before, and the new setup has potential. Did you physically paint over your side markers, or did you trade out for some USDM plastic triangles?

96wagonzilla
06-11-2008, 02:24 AM
I painted over the side markers. The lip is still up for grabs if you want it. I have had a couple people interested, but nothing yet. I thought about cutting the wing down too, but I think I will just buy a different style all together.

I love it, aside from the wing. Maybe more of a satin would look better, but the flat is good!
