Mod list???

Not much...
K&N filter w/ "Ganzflow" style intake
2.25" exhaust from catback inc. WRX axleback

King Springs Low
TSW Apex 17x7 wheels
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 rubber

Cusco upper front and rear strut braces
22mm rear swaybar and Outback mounts

v5/6 updated front bumper
clear indicator and bumper signals
STi wagon taillights
WRX wagon upper spoiler (car came with STi lower spoiler from the dealer)
Blanked door locks
maximum legal tint (for NZ) @ 35% VLT
Alpine Type R speakers w/ Kenwood MP3 headunit
Dynamat Xtreme sounddeadening
Autotechnica 360mm dia. steering wheel (no airbag)

added electric windows

Car did not come with ABS or electric windows.

It was my first attempt at modifying a vehicle, and I spent a lot, considering the car was broken into twice, I had to have the doors repainted three times. The last time it was broken into, I had the door locks welded over.

When I started, I went for the show (looks), then I realised if I wanted to hang with the bigger boys, I needed to improve the handling. Great tyres alone wouldn't do it.

:D

I have a black Legacy GT in auto, and I miss my wagon. 5spd, 2.0L, it went fast and looked good too. So easy to keep clean...

Technically, I don't own it anymore.
But my dad drives it to work twice a week. It's like my parent's "2nd" car.
All the kids in his neighbourhood love it!

Thanks Rob! What's funny is I posted the wagon on RS25.com and pretty much everyone there hated the wheels.

I think they look great on there. Maybe if the car was another color they wouldn't look as good...

BTW, I think your circle on the map is to the right hand side

Probably the EJ20.

That was actually in reference to the exact location (in my profile)... but I see what you mean!

Correctomundo! I didn't want a WRX (at the time purchasing a same-year WRX or STi would have been $20k, and I got my wagon for $10k) - because of reliability, higher gas prices and insurance worries.

Plus, I liked the linear response of the EJ20. Very predictable and easy to hold on the edge of grip.

I've gotten a lot of "is that a sleeper?!?" comments from the JDMified WRX crowd.

I had planned on stuffing the EZ30R into the engine bay, and matching it with a Type R gearset (short ratios and 1st version DCCD), and using it to haul around the autox course.

That would be a crazy setup... Maybe I need to get a wagon

I've always wondered.. why does america get all the shitty watered down cars. Seems like the japanese cars are way better than ours with all the extra cool parts they get, and options. Yet we get the most stripped down, basic cars.

outbackmike
12-22-2006, 10:15 PM
trust me,america is not the worst...
in israel most of the cars like civic, impreza corolla and etc. have 1.6 liters engines and the base impreza is not even AWD but a FWD...

^ Yea i guess, but they dont brag about having the 'best of everything' and have a 'were the best' type of attitude. I mean, COME ON.. america spends the most $ on useless crap we dont need, and yet we STILL dont get the cool cars!

outbackmike
12-23-2006, 12:09 AM
you know whats even worse?
a new impreza 1.5 liter manual will be 116,300 New Israeli Shekels,in USD its 27,759.88$
and a 3.0R outback is more then 66,000$

so its basicly shit car for wrx money...

the good thing in america is the gas prices, honestly, for me 92 canadian cents/liter is not a bad price...
just think about the prices in europe

Wiscon_Mark

There's two reasons behind that:

1. Market

2. Emissions

The reason the Legacy turbo was dropped after 1994 was because of OBDII and new emissions standards that were much more strict. Subaru couldn't get their emissions down to a reasonable level until GM bought a share of them, and they got access to cheaper catalytic converters so they could make catted downpipes, bringing us to the 2002 WRX.

Now I still think we're pretty watered down, but Subaru has really established themselves as a performance company, and while we enthusiasts disagree with their moves frequently, we're not the main market they cater to. Naturally Aspirated Outbacks are still the top US seller (and moneymaker) not LGTs or STis. The STi is nothing to sneeze at either.

just think about the prices in europe

People always say that...but you have to realize that Europe's public transit system is the best in the world (mmm, maybe Japan) and they rely a lot less on automobiles. Autos are more like a luxury fun item for most Europeans.

I really wish the US would develop public transportation though. It would save us a lot of hassle in the long run.

On a recent trip back home, I managed to snap a couple more pics of the wagon...it still looks amazingly good despite it being close to 10 years old.

My dad recently replaced the rubber, and ended up getting the Goodyear Eagle F1s again...costing nearly NZ$200 a piece. He's changing out for Toyo Proxes 4 on 205/55/16 rubber later this year when they wear out.

dude, that's a nice car. I like it, and also dig the clean 5-spoke wheels.

I'm suprised it took this long before we saw pics of it :-).

I dug up some pics of the interior...

It really needs an interior update, but the best mod I did was fit a 320mm dia. steering wheel. Turning is so smooth and sharp in this car because of that.

Interior is ghey, but I do have the dual range 5mt.

Note: No ABS, no SRS. Car didn't have electric windows either but I installed those.

Yeah I was just about to ask what the hell that other shifter was near the e-brake. Dual range huh? Interesting.

what is dual range?

Huffer
08-17-2008, 07:51 AM
what is dual range?

Puts the transmission into shorter gear ratios - I forget the ratios exactly, but it's like this:

Normal 1st = Short 1st + Short 2nd + Short 3rd
Normal 2nd = Short 3rd + Short 4th
Normal 3rd = Short 5th

It's really only useful on loose gravel, sand.
