My gas gauge in my car is not accurate and i normally run until i see its around 1/2 then i fill up. My question is since my gauge/sending unit is not accurate will my low gas light still be accurate?

What makes you think it's not accurate? The Subaru fuel gauges are conservative. They almost always read lower than the actual tank level, which is good because you should never run out of gas.

Why are you filling all the way up? Do you drive long distances at constant speed all the time? If not, run only half a tank - otherwise you're carrying around dead weight.

The car was my grandfathers before he sold it to me. He said it was not accurate and the Subaru garage wanted 300 bucks to fix it so he just filled up every 200 miles?

They are independent of each other, so the low fuel light should work. Emphasis on "should" is because you sound like you have never seen the low fuel light working. Suggestion: Test it by running the tank low & take along 2-3 gallon container of gasoline just in case it doesn't work.

Mine has recently stopped operating reliably. It's on E after 100 miles.

I just fill it up at 350 miles, when I know I have at least two gallons left in my 16-gallon tank.

I'll fix it if I ever get sick of the light, or if I sell the car.

So i can run 350 miles before i fill up? Normally i am at 200 miles and my gauge is on E.

Damn 350? I'm usually filling up right before 300. I think the most I got to a tank was 400 on my way to South Carolina

Didnt want to make a new forum seeing as this is very similar to me. Got a 06 L-Limited and it has the little display showing how many miles to empty (i know its only an estimate) but before i would fill all the way up and it would be in the high 300's, like 350 or so sometimes a little short of that but now when i fill up its saying 280 or 290 at most. any ideas whats wrong or maybe its the pump thinking my car is full early?

That estimation is based on driving patterns and habits, and probably things like ambient temps.

It would be interesting for you to test it's accuracy by setting the trip meter, having some spare gas in a portable tank and just driving until it putts out.

Ford Taurus's have had a similar function for YEARS and it's usually pretty accurate.

I take it you have the 95 Legacy LS? It came with a Low fuel light? hmm.. I had a 95 Impreza anyone who knows about that car anything under 1/2 tank would have the gauge reading anyplace from a Full tank to on or under Empty...

I remember freaking up driving up a hill in way upsate CT and it was under E..
