So I was toying with this idea in my head, how hard would it be to swap in an EZ30 H6 motor into a subaru that has a 5MT transmission already?

im not 100% but i think EJ trannys dont bolt up to EZ blocks.. but if you already know this then it should be hard to do. you would need an adapter plate made.

Thought about this swap myself, but as I found out it's too much money and not worth it.
I don't have any links, but search this Section and NAOSIC too. i think their was/is a guy in NAOSIC that is doing it or did it.

You should go for it, if you have the money and resources, you would have a really awesome, unique car.

It probably wouldn't be hugely more involved than an ej20 swap, but definitely more unique.
Finding a good used motor and swap parts will be more difficult & expensive than for an ej20 though, and you'll have to figure out the auto-manual issue (the ez30 only came with an automatic unless you're talking 3.0R which will be $$$$$).

IIRC the EZ30R uses drive by wire, you'd have to do all that wiring mess and install the DBW pedal box and what not.. the EZ33 from the SVX is probably easier..
there was a memeber on Nasioc doing the swap but it took over a year to get it running because of 3 liter related issues.. fwiw

SVX used an EG33, and was also only available with an auto. It's also a longer engine, and likely won't fit in the engine bay without major work. I think it's around 4 inches longer than a EJ 4 cylinder. The EZ30 was specifically designed to fit the bay, and is IIRC less than an inch longer than the 4 cyl.

^ if you go with a custom build radiator you dont have to customize the engine bay at all with an eg33. guy here in mn is rocking a front mount style radiator and didnt need to hack up his radiator support.
heres a good h6 swap referance thread....

new 3.0L DOHC H-6 cylinder engine.
This all new engine has an aluminum crankcase, double-overhead camshafts (dohc) chain-driven with four valves per cylinder. The timing chain does not have a replacement schedule- suggested replacement of the rubber belt on the 2.5L 4 cyl is 105,000 miles.
The 6 cylinder uses Direct Ignition with an individual ignition coil for each cylinder so there is no distributor or sparkplug wires.
The H6-3.0 produces nearly 30 percent more horsepower and torque than the 165-horsepower 2.5-liter H-4 and is only 0.8 inches longer. Premium fuel, 91 octane, is recommended.
this is for a 2001 outback H6 engine.

Probably a good way would be find an LLbean outback H6 or similar and swap everything over.
I've looked into it fairly extensively and I don't think it's quite that simple.

Did this H6 dream ever go anywhere?
