Hello everyone,
I'm weighing my options on a swap. I have a HG that is going and I need to swap into something else soon. I could swap in a lower milage EJ25, but I will eventually have this problem again. So I thought WRX EJ20, too much work and money. My dream swap, but I can't afford it right. SO . . . . I thought why not a EJ22 from a "L". I think I need ECU and Engine right ? I don't think I'll need a harness.

Please let me know

THANKS

You honestly are probably just better off paying the $800 and getting the HG fixed.. then your engine will be good to go! =]

from what I've heard once you replace the HGs with the newer multi-layer steel gaskets you won't have the problem again.

Fix it yourself, never downgrade engine size unless you're boosting

I know it's not recommended to down size displacement, but I love this car and I've been having head aches for a few days trying to figure out what I'm going to do to remedy my current situation

So I'm serious about the EJ22 swap and if anyone wants to help me. Please let me know if the only thing I need is the engine and the ECU.

I love how my car looks and I don't really care for power. I know it's a big downgrade.

THANKS,
-Ant

I say Fix it no need to get frighten over high milage.

Are they any advantages that a SOHC motor has over a DOHC?

SOHC in genral usually produces more torque...

As far as ej22 vrs ej25...ej22's never have headgasket problems, but are slow as hell combined with a 4eat.

OK everyone. I might fix it. I was looking at engine prices and they are going to run me just as much as fixing it. I'm going to see this guy that is really good with subie engines tomorrow and see what kind of price he can do for me. My dad and my friends dad know him so I hope he can fix me a good price.

We'll see

Had no idea the SOHC's had more torque, I always thought it was the other way around. Well I learned something today

ecs does headgaskets for $800 as well.. which is pretty cheap for HG. of course.. dont know how close that would be to you. also.. check craigslist..

hell i would do it. but im sure you dont want to drive 1.5-2hrs (30 min past ecs)away. i would be happy with 500 and parts

i ran a 2.5 on a 2.2 harnes and ecu no prob. i dont see why it couldnt go the otherway around? but i would do the gaskets.. and dont use the stock headbolts!!! i did and now im mad.. doin the gaskets really isnt that hard and i think the 2.5s worth it

I know no one has mentioned this yet, but I suggest fixing it.

Groundbreaking, I know.

If you have the $$$, wouldn't hurt to make sure other things are in good order while it's ripped to bits (water pump, belts, plugs, wires, valve cover gaskets, etc...).

Cheaper now than later.

Of course the proper thing to do is throw in a EJ20 instead of sinking all the money into this nonsense
