Carbon Fiber Hood?

I know this should be in the EBAY forum but I just never knew they made these. Did VIS always make hoods for us?

I was under the impression they were very hard to come by. Plus, sometimes hard to justify 600 bucks for a hood.

VIS "did" make this hood.

Most sellers are selling off there stock, although I did e-mail VIS directly and they seem to have a few in stock they qouted me $827 CAN Shipped :-/

To rich for my blood, I found a local carbon fiber moulder, hes around 500ish but its not a "OEM" fit.

If you don't need the weight reduction, don't buy it. While visually cool, it's almost impossible to keep a CF hood undamaged(between the sun and rock chips).

For me:
Stock Baja Turbo hood = 51 lbs
VIS CF hood = 21 lbs
But I autocross and such, so it was worth it.

I wish they made one where I could place my stock scoop in and have a CF hood with a green scoop. Kinda like Shizntaz hood, white with read scoop.

I know it would beat the purpose of light weight but it would look AWESOME!

I doubt the weight of a scoop would make much of a difference :lol:

did you get you hood clearered? or did u just leave it the way it came? the reason carbon hoods get shitty looking is because of their owner .i had a cf hood on my wrx wagon and it was beautiful for so long cause i went and had it cleared. it only comes with a gel coat on it.

sorry didnt mean to throw it out there like that. but the hood usually comes with a paper saying in a raw state(no protection whatsoever). so its the owners fault if it bakes in the sun, its not protected. simple solution is to go get the hood cleared at a local body shop.. that coat will make the hood last almost forever.

Just to let you know, I wasn't offended. :grin: Your words have much merit. I bought the hood used, it'd been on a 1 show car and 1 DD. It's a few years old, so it wasn't perfect, and it was too late for a spray of clear to have any positive effect. It has a mild yellow tinge and a couple stone chips....but then UPS beat the hell out of it in shipping....suffice to say, I will be getting the whole thing painted this winter.

a yellowed hood can still be saved. i wetsanded a 4 year old CF hood on a honda.. lots of sanding and polishing but it came out perty.. then i told him he has 2 months to go get it cleared. he never did and it looks like ass again :(

these guys make better hoods then vis. oem style under frame, aluminum reinforcement.

I'd like to add that the few people who I knew with carbon fiber hoods went back to stock hoods with carbon fiber scoops. They said the carbon fiber is too easy to damage, clear coat or not it gets damaged more easy then aluminum/steal.

500 for the hood just to loose a couple pounds when i can get strut and sway bars for the same or less.

See, i don't like that hood--integrated scoop FTL. Scoop should be removable and based on another scoop 'size' from subaru, like the 04-05 wrx.

The scoop intake has a poor design vs the ViS hood. How strong do you need it? You get in a front end collision you are screwed either way.

its just ever ViS hood ive seen had to be re-epoxyed because the studs on the scoop fell out or the latch mount broke. or the carbon fiber is coming apart

Mine's been used on 3 cars, shipped from coast to coast and damaged by UPS. The latch is fine, and there's one hairline crack in the cf coming off the scoop. The hood's at least 4 years old. It's certainly not god's gift to mankind, but it's putting up with my abuse fairly well. :lol:

Both are functional, I think the ViS will flow better two since it is designed like the stock hood. Look at the corners of the scoop on the gemini hood, they are flat. I see that causing turbulence. BUT either way whats the point if the car doesn't have a TMIC??
