I did something stupid

So i bought some rims,

they are the correct size and offset but the centerbore is too small!

the wheels have a 54mm centerbore size and the legacy theyre are going on
is 56mm

I have been researching and found two solutions, either get them machined out to the right size or just get spacers ,


what do you guys think?

btw i really want to keep these wheels

If everything else is correct with the wheels, and you can find a shop that can properly do it, the best option would likely be getting them machined out to the correct center bore size.

I would never grind or machine out a wheel... if you know how it's made most wheels are cast or forged, not wet-cut from a single chunk of metal.

these ones are forged, im not sure if that mkes it any better

but its only 2mm is it really that much of a difference ??

Why, I among many other people have been running wheel spacers for years on lifted jeeps running 35" tires without issues? I have 1.5" spacers. if they are torqued correctly and a reputable manufacturers there is absolutely nothing wrong with using them. The horror stories about them breaking or failing is because the installer did not properly install them. The only kind to avoid is the kind that are just a slip on spacer over the studs.

i ran the slip on spacers for 5 yrs on my drift cars. i had to in order to not rub as bad. even with rolled fenders. i never had a problem with them. i think that weekend upon weekend with the tires spinning at 180kph+ and no problem is a good enough test in my book for them to work.

I ran 5mm spacers, Ichiba. I followed the instructions I ended up with both front wheels coming ever so slightly off the hub, and bending all 10 front lug studs. If I had just used my OEM lug studs and ignored the instructions, it wouldn't have happened.

im not saying that you are wrong dave. just stating that i never had a problem with them. yes subarus dont have the greatest wheel bearing in th car world(wonders why no aftermaket ppl have fixed this). if the wheels can get machined properly and not for an arm and a leg then yes i would go that route.

Hehe, it's just one of the many reasons to switch to 05+ STi hubs--you get tougher bearings, brembo hookups, and a fantastic selection of cheap forged wheels. :grin:

I have no clue how easy or hard it would be to accomplish, but it is at least possible. Check the nasioc technical sections--if it's been done to a 1st generation impreza it can be done to a BK.

converting to 5x114.3 hubs involves changing the entire suspension and braking systems, just an FYI, already checked that shit out.
