I just bought a 97 Legacy GT with blown head gaskets. I have searched a bit on the forum but I still have a few questions.

I saw the sticky thread listing the parts needed for doing the head gasket replacment. What is the best source for the gasket set. Should I buy an OEM gasket set or an aftermarket set? Are new head bolts required for this job? Any other advice would be appreciated.

OEM gasket set.
You'll want new head bolts if your heads are warped, and they're inexpensive.

Get the heads checked out by a good machine shop to determine any warpage.

Does the gasket set come with valve stem seals? Is it necessary to change these at this time? The engine has 130k on it.

If the engine is out, it's best to change all the seals and timing belt etc.
It's good insurance.

If you're doing the heads while the engine is still in the car, you could just replace the HGs and drain/replace fluids.

Personally I'd try to take the extra time.

i reccomend new head bolt because of the reason there "stretched" type bolts. and if reused they will lose torque over a period of time and can cause your head gaskets to leak again
just my 2 cents
