I am new to this forum and new to Subarus. I have a 98 Lifted Jeep cherokee na di am in to 4 wheeling and anything out door related but i recently decided that using a jeep on 35" tires was not a good choice for a commuter vehicle so with that as my toy i am going to be buying a subaru.

I am buying a 96 Subaru 2.5 LGT from a friend for $800. Its in excellent condition inside and out bu tit needs a head gasket. I have been on the LegacyGT forums for a few weeks now learning and reading.

My plans once i get the car at the end of summer is to have a local guy do all the work on the engine including timing belt, oil pump, water pump and all the necessary parts to do the job while changing anything thats in the way that could do with a replacement. I will have the heads sent out to be checked for warping and cracks and be re machined. Once its up and running i have a few plans for it but it is going to be a modest car for now until i can pay off my bills and officially have 2 toys.

For starters i will do some custom interior changes, maybe some used STi parts from the bone yard, I really want to swap in leather seats and do some dash work (trim out gauges and such) All simple relatively inexpensive stuff or do it yourself stuff. I will also be putting in my extra Kicker CVR 12 sub and a 750 Watt amp and new speakers and cd head unit.

I will also perform any needed maintainance it needs to be safe and reliable. Change all fluids check brakes, cv joints etc.

I will throw a set of winter tires on it this fall and over the winter i hope to find a set of these stock wagon (see pic below) wheels to use for summer wheels. I also want to put new headlights in (the ones it has are old and fogged) and i want to change the rear tail lights to the clear signals (not amber ) of if that is out of the budget i will just do the spray on smoke stuff on the tail lights.

First choice for wheels

Thats it for now, it will be a long term build but its also a DD so it will be on the cheap and little at a time. I just need to worry about getting it running for now.

I would detail the heck out of the car before sinking money into mods. You want to make sure the body integrity is straight and the paint is good.

Welcome!

My friend just washed it really well today and i know that the car is pretty much rust free as far as anything besides normal surface rust but no holes or anything major. I have not done a car fax report on it to see if its been in any major accidents but i will before i actually buy it. he says all doors line up well and everything works fine. i trust him and have known him personally for a while now so i think its all good.

I am in manchester nh too, and he said he has the manual for it so i wont be needing a new one but thanks any way. I cant wait to get the car i just need to finish saving up $$ cause work has been slow and i am in debt pretty bad because i am stupid.

here are a few pics from today after the wash. he said the paint is not perfect but can be salvaged and i have a friend who is gonna compound it and buff it for me when i get it. (he does it for a living)

This is the factory SERVICE manual.. the one that shows you how to fix everything the way subaru would. If your friend is giving you one of these.. damn.. i want one! hah.

nice pics btw.. would really help if you pick up a pack of 2000 grit sandpaper, and some plasti-x and sand the headlights down real well, then polish them with the compound.. will make them look like new!

I am planning on doing that to the head lights. Someone on another forum suggested Brasso but if that does not work the 2000 grit will do it nicely. I hate how it looks now and i am sure it has a bad effect on the light quality.

I know with alot of vehicles you need to upgrade the wiring loom to put in H4 Bulbs do you need to do that on these or is it suggested, i dont want any fires or shorts. I want to get some PIAA or IPF H4 bulbs for this.

Oh an its only a owners manual my mistake. I may take one of those service manuals but not this week maybe next week so i can do some reading.
