View Full Version : '03 BE: P0519 Idle Air Control Performance code?

Good morning -

I was coasting down a hill last nite when my '03 BE with 50k miles stalled and the check engine light came on. I restarted it and it appeared to run fine but the check engine light stayed on (solid not flashing). So I ran by Autozone this am and they got the following code:

P0519 - Idle Air Control System Performance

Unfortunately, the girl at Autozone didn't know what this meant. I called the local dealership and they recommended bringing it in to them for a $50 diagnostic charge. The dealer tech did say it could be the IAC valve or maybe just the fuel injectors need cleaned.

The light hasn't come back on since Autozone cleared the code, but I don't mind spending a little $$ to get the car running right and make sure it doesn't come back on. I have the Haynes manual for it and could do an easy sensor change.

So - any ideas/recommendations?

Thanks!!!!
- Mark

Clean the IAC valve, and run some fuel injector cleaner... I like Seafoam or Chevron Techron...

I have a spare IAC from my old engine if you ever need it.

It just seems that way.
I just figured your best and cheapest bet is to do what the dealer recommended, and it's really preventative stuff anyway.

It might be worth checking to see if you have any cracked vac lines, or if your fuel filter needs replacing - coasting down a hill has shown me a dirty fuel filter before.

Just to follow up on this - I think it might have been the fuel filter. I cleared the codes, changed that out and ran some injector cleaner - and she's been running fine for awhile now.

Thanks for the advice all,
