Hi and thanks for looking...
I am in need of a new shortblock for my 98LGT and recently found a longblock that was overhauled using a 1996 2.5L shortblock and 1998/9 DOHC heads.
My question is, will this bolt into my car trouble free and will I be able to bolt my existing 1998 LGT intake plenum and accessories to it. The shop that has it says it won't (it's not a subaru shop), but I figured the only difference I saw was that the timing belt used a different tensioner than my 98 but other than that it should all bolt together...... Are there any othere differences?
Please let me know

I can't see why it won't "fit". What is there reason for it not "fitting"?

I asked the same thing....I have no idea why he told me it wouldn't...

They just don't know. It'll fit. It's the same size dimensionally...
Time to take it to a different shop it sounds like.

the place that has the engine isn't a mechanic shop....it's just a dismantling yard.
They get tonnes of Subey parts but this particular engine was purchased by one of the employees but then decided to sell it after he had it put together by their rebuilder......I figured it would be a good buy since it already has new gaskets and timing belt etc
he had mentioned something about engine mounts or something, but as far as I know all of them are compatible.....So as long as I can slap my intake manifold and accessories on it and plug'n'play I'm good....
thanks for the input guys

I assumed so......my experience heavily leans towards all versions of STi engines, but I know little about the NA version hence all my questions .....I assumed everything would work, but why not ask the pros here and make 100% sure :P ....
I'm going to go have one final look at the engine next week, and if all goes well, I'll pick it up .....It's just a pity my block has such severe piston slap with a touch of rod knock, as everything else was addressed when my engine was out.....I bought the car not running hence why I missed the noise it made otherwise I would have either replaced or rebuilt the block before it went back together.........The heads on my car were rebuilt, and all gaskets and seals were replaced.... I'm sure I'll be able to sell the heads to at least recoup a few bucks....
thanks again for the help
