EJ20R/EJ22G Hybrid engine! Do it!
Jast ask me if you need JDM parts, i can ship stuff over. I've looked into it already, a set of bilsteins would costs $300 US, and $330 to ship to the states, stuff like an ECU for example are $70 US $30 to ship. We have STACKS of JDM bits here man.

Just make sure it's an outback, if you get a BK, i'll shoot you! Stepped roof FTMFW
And cross-members? AFAIK turbo and N/A gearbox cross-members are the same.
TT ones are shaped funny, it's one of the items in my single conversion list. I have a WRX one in mine, but i was told i could use and N/A one too. (I'm not actually using an N/A one, so you can class that as speculation)
And I'm always here to help. There is also www.ClubSUB.org.nz (http://www.ClubSUB.org.nz), we deal almost exlusivly with JDM down here in NZ, and speak english! (Not american, you'll have to remember to say bonnet and boot )
BTW, i don't think it's been said yet, so i'll say it now. Do NOT bother with TT. By all means buy an EJ20R, but for the love of sanity, convert it to single turbo! Single turbo is more reliable, easier to install, easier to fix, easier to drive, and has HEAPS more potential. If you want to be "different": Twinscroll.

Incorrect my friend from Aucks, the turbo ENGINE x-members are different to account for the exhaust routing.
When someone talks about x-members they mean engine, not gearbox.
Paul's car from ECS is sick. It's a total RHD conversion - a real GTB here in the US. With the information from Reuben it'd be easy to switch it to a single turbo setup.
It'd still be unique, but the hard parts would already be done.
Had it been available when I was looking for my wagon, I'd have bought it in a heartbeat.

Lol, my USDM Knowledge fails . I was meaning the EJ22"T".
And that "GTB" is sweet, nice conversion. I've got a few nitpicks but i wouldn't dare say. I love seeing USDM conversions, if i ever go to the US i'd love to bring a GTB over and do one myself. Considering they sell for like $2000-4000 US in japan, it'd be worth doing. Bring it in as a track car or something, swap every last big onto an outback, and.. well, nothing you can do legally with the old chassis is there? :(
Edit: On second thought... how much is it to ship a car in? Might it be cheaper than to build it up piece by piece? It would certainly ensure a complete conversion. Prices have plummeted for them a FECK load. Just check out trademe (NZ's idea of ebay). They are cheaper in japan too..
BG GTB's. (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/CategoryAttributeSearchResults.aspx?search=1&mcat=0001-0268-&sidebar=1&5=Station+Wagon&14=Subaru&15=Manual+GTB&18=0&18=0&24=1996&24=1998&searchRegion=100&x=45&y=4) Only showing manuals, auto's fail at life.

A sedan is going to be lighter, and probably more conventional to work with in regards to a cage...
A wagon is going to turn more heads for sure though.
But the suspension & drivetrain layouts are the same.

BG! IMO go for the BG GTB dream man, if you want a sedan: 2.5RS (they are a far far FAR better chassis for track) And how many GTB conversions do you see out there compared to RSTi ones...
I think you need some wagon sense put into you. Here's the taupo track day we had a few months ago:

Dunno, i'm guessing yes though.
And if you want it as a dedicated track car, get a sedan. As cool as an awesome wagon would be, sedans are better for that aplication. I was suggesting wagon for a daily driver that can do the odd track day. All the pictured wagons there are daily drivers. :D

I guess I don't understand the desire for RHD in the US. Maybe as a dedicated track car... It just seems like it'd make passing on two roads a royal PIA.
If it was me I'd get a '96+ Outback (BG) solely for the raised roof. That postal wagon you'd be looking at will be a BK with a flat roof.

I think the desire for a RHD car is the exoticness of it. Coming from a community that LOVE JDM parts, a RHD car is the ultimate JDMness.

Truth, RHD does score very highly in JDMness. I guess I'm just not that hardcore haha. Were BK's sold in Japan as well?
Reuben

Coming from a country that's well over 80% JDM for it's subies. Trust me, Raised roof IMHO is more important than RHD.
I could not live with seeing you convert a BK to a GTB... I mean... thats just not right...
I would think this one through thoroughly.
Have you looked into costs of buying every JDM part seperatly, over the cost to ship in a car to demolish and plunder? And considered the quality of conversion (i.e, full JDM interior and GTB running gear + engine over a look alike or partial conversion) in either case to the expense of either one?
I actually have no idea at all how expensive it is to ship a GTB in, it may be acceptable, but the red tape and loopholes you'd have to go through could slow you down.

Nooone? :-(
It's just the looks, i have a problem with the flat roof thing that SOA decided was a good idea. A GTB with a flat roof.. well i saw that converted one on here and it was just wrong. I suppose those who live with USDM wouldn't notice, but it bothers the heck out of me..
If he went sedan, he wouldn't get that problem, lol. Further reason to think it through properly. And time for me to shutup

Wagon is too top heavy for a proper track car. There's a slight aero advantage with the roofline (in which case, a raised roof would defeat that advantage anyway) of a wagon, but you're going to be at a 200-300lb disadvantage at the start of the project (and at the wrong end of the car too).
Do you want a competively setup track Legacy or something to just play around in?

Curb Weight: sedans : 2570-3045, Wagons:2685-3135
Also to add the Wagons had less weight in the front and more in the rear due to the suspension and added roof + tail gate.
Wiscon_Mark

Those must be dry curbweights, the official thread on Nasioc has the sedans starting out at 2885, and the wagons 2950.
I'd say the more weight in the back is a good thing, considering the wagon has almost a perfect 50/50 weight ratio. The only downside is that the weight is a little higher in the back.

I'm with Reuben. I really way the raised roof looks. My favorite look is when they are rackless & are equipped with the dual sunroofs. The dual sunroofs would not be beneficial however to what the OP is trying to build. They must add a lot of weight lol.

Hmm that's so weird to me. I weighed my Legacy (awd 5 - speed) "L" with a full tank of gas and a couple of snowbords + gear in @ 2,750lbs. That was without me in it of course. Next time I'm at a weigh station I'll snap a pic.

I'm amused at the "full SCCA track car" comment. You don't seem to have a plan beyond blowing a lot of money on the car? Most people start out with a "I'm building this car for this class" type of project. What class are you plan on running this thing in?
