( what % tint is that? )

35% front, 25% rear. I bought it as an eBay kit, pre-cut ($80), and had a local pro tinter install for $40. Damn good deal I think.

Don't let rust go by... a long overdue update for the little sedan that could... 200k+ on the original engine & transmission, some unknown body damage (roof chop anyone?!?) and some DIY mechanical fixes, rusty exhaust etc.

She still goes, runs smooth and clocks at least 50miles 6 days a week.

Quick little update - the original calipers froze up, so I had the dealership replace them... $400 in parts, labor was only $150 or so.
However, I have nice shiny silver-painted front calipers now...instead of the rust-corroded originals.

Not bad for 205,000 miles!

Car has been given to the in-laws - wheels are back to the LGT mesh "snowflakes" and it's still rocking at over 207,000 miles.
Got some maintenance coming up on it, and I have to install the O2 spacer too.

Front calipers aren't silver anymore, it was a preservative coating that got burned off so now the calipers are a wonderful rusty color - BAH.
I'll have to repaint those too at some point.

How could you let the wife get rid of this to buy a Honda

Car is officially transferred into the in-laws names now.
I will still be "head mechanic" on the car. I was driving parallel with the sedan last night on the freeway.
Wife says "I miss that little black car". I look over, it looked REALLY good rolling at 65mph, not missing a beat, all the panels in good shape and still tight on the body.

Just clicked over 209k.

Quick update, rear calipers froze up (212,000miles), so I had those replaced along with all new brake pads and rotors.

Problem - AC condenser has a leak, so the AC isn't staying in. $500 to fix.

Bigger problem, the sunroof will not raise up to seal the roof anymore, apparently the part to replace (the track) is $700 + $500 in labor (dealer) to install.

Car is starting to cost a little more money now, but if I can fix the sunroof, replace the engine and the transmission, it should be good for another 100k.

Car is officially laid to rest... at just 216,000miles... probably more as the speedo sensor failed to work at speeds below 40mph, and my mother in law drove the majority of the last year or so within 5miles of home.

Sad days... but she took care of 3 families during my ownership...and probably 4 others prior to me.

My first car in the USA... cut my grease monkey skills on her.

The engine will be my rebuild project... the block is still good.

Reason for dismantle: body cancer.

Wow, shame to see such a nice car go. Aside from the rust, your body looked really clean and straight, i'm not noticing any door dings. And Java black, too. Those seats look good, too. :(

I found a little more rust inside the body that convinced me this was the way to go... eventually I may have to do the same thing with my wagon but hopefully not for another 100k. :)

It's actually Black Granite Pearl in color. Java black was an 03+ color.

No, she didn't. Cancer had spread... it would have required stripping the entire chassis and media-blasting plus welding a lot of new metal.
I don't have an overhaulin' team, so it was time to kiss her goodbye.
Struts blown, springs corroded, trunk + inside of doors rusted out...I think the only good parts I didn't save were the front bumper beam, rear bumper, steering wheel and passenger airbag system. ABS tone rings and hubs were well rusted.

wow nice to see the progression of the car nad how it will be used to help other subarus take there turn to shine with all of its parts. was it worth anything to you to part out? was currious could see some one that maybe off road races use it even with rust. a person smashing into things for off road fun would have loved it lol. glad you have your other car to dote over now, sort of focus attention on one car.

I probably could have gotten maybe another $1-200 out of it if I were able to keep the trans, and the rear diff.. But, it was getting cold quick and I had no garage to work in. The engine leaked like a sieve.
