Ok I 've been thinking about this for a while...
If I get an Ej22t can I mate it with my At tranny?

My car's a Bd if that helps.

you can. but the clutches in the tranny wont like it

It will work, but why do you want to do this? the ej22t is an OBD1 motor, your BD is OBD2. So you are going to have wiring issues up the wazoo. Unless you are going to use the intake/manifold that's on your car now. What are your future plans for the car?

I don't want to do this but I think I'll have to switch in a manual tranny.
Plans are to get a little more power out of the Bd.
I also considered getting an Ej25 but the ej22t engine I would get would be cheaper...

Well if your just after a little power, then swapping in an ej22t is a pretty bad idea. It's not easy, it's not cheap. Trust me. If you currently have an ej22, you can build a turbo kit for cheap and run like 6-7 PSI and have a lot of fun.

Ok I think I'll get an ej25 and give it the usual mods: exhaust, intake, Lightweight pulleys any other light performance you guys can suggest.

That would give me a fun Bd to drive without breaking the bank woudn't it?

Don't knock the EJ22T though, those engines have SO much potential it's not funny. The closed deck block can take some serious punishment! They have a few rebuilt 22T's in oz i've seen running 30 psi... They have to import the blocks to do this, since the US is the only place that ever got them.

Forget ever doing the kind of stuff you could to a 22T, to any EJ25.

That said, the level the new EJ257's get taken to in the states is something else... You never see that much power in subarus in NZ :-(

Really? I've always heard that the EJ207 block was more stout and had better potential with its stock heads.

I'd much rather a EJ207 than an EJ257 for sure, and i think you're right, but we don't have as deep pockets here, or tuners like they do in the states. 250 KW (330 HP) here is pretty much as powerful as it gets, i've seen many many 400+ HP Monsters on NASIOC...

Maybe i'm just dreaming all that up, but it's easy to get the impression everyone on NASIOC has "moar powa dan you"

I'm not knocking it. I have one it my car for a reason :) I'm just saying that it's not exactly easy to do the swap. I have a lot of time and Money into mine, and have only driven it once the last year.

Ok if I was to go and build a custom turbo kit would a turbo from the ej20h/R be sufficient to power the build?

No.

Simply put. Most wouldn't even work. For example, the VF19 doesn't even have a wastegate and the VF18 is backwards, and they have different flanges for the up-pipes. And even if you did fit one, it'd spool before 2000 rpm, and run out of puff after 4000, then promptly brake from being over worked.

Fantastic little turbo's.... *cough*
