My friend upgraded, and is giving me his complete 04 STI suspension...shocks/springs/tophats etc....

He says its "blown"...that it clunks and his rear end was sagging.....BUT its only got 30k on it ! Can I get it rebuilt ??

If I can just fix the clunking, I'm assuming its STILL going to be WAY WAY better than the current ORIGINAL suspension on my 150,000 mile 98 legacy L wagon... What do you think ?

My question is, Even though its for a sedan, WOULD this be worth it to put on my wagon ??

has anyone done this ?? I'm assuming I would have a decent rear end sag. BUT I could fix most of this with some spacers....

would it be worth doing ?? whata u guys think ?

they have only 30k miles on them...I wonder if I could send them out to be "rebuilt" or whatever....

This man right here put one in a BD, I would talk to him. The rear sag would definitely be an issue, but as you said that can be corrected with spacers. If it's free, I would say why not!

I checked the link... I don't see any feedback since he had them in his trunk.

Hmmm. I could have sworn I remembered seeing it somewhere under member rides or something that he had installed them, but I can't seem to find it anywhere anymore.

the clunk is normal problem for sti suspension. it happens in about 20k+ miles. its just a common problem. they not worth it if they need a rebuild. unless you just what to but new strut on the springs and mounts

its crazzy that the struts would go after only 30k miles...

do you think I could buy some wrx wagon shocks for those springs ??

That's actually true...my bro's '04 STi struts went after 25k-30k.

so would there be ANY point to puting blown suspension on the car ??? wouldn't it STILL be better than original 150,000 mile stock legacy suspension ??

dude my car has 150k....with ORIGINAL shocks.... I'm pretty sure those are blown too :)

why do you think your original struts are blown just because of mileage? What huffer is saying is that assuming your original struts are NOT blown, replacing them with newer BLOWN struts is not an upgrade.

well considering you are sapposed to replace shocks after 60k....after 150k they would unboubtedly be blown..... I would suspect.

iether way....I think the only option I have is really to just buy all new Legacy specific stuff.... GR2 shocks and H&R springs........

may not be blown, I've seen 150k mile suspension fully intact before, just depends on the life of the car. Also, we aren't trying to disuade you from your decision, in reality, you could pick up another set of STi struts and use the stuff your buddy is giving you, or like you said, pick up a setup car specific, but that is your call and your money.

the knock doesnt always mean there blown. but you couldnt tell unless you compressed of the springs and push down on the rod to see it return.

The rod part of the strut won't rebound very well.

yeah the bad thing is you would need to take the compress the springs off and press down on the rod and watch it return it should be semi-hard to press it down.

well i just swapped out struts beacuse one strut was blown after 165k . the strut that was blown on my wagon was oily and covered in dirt and grime . but for struts that only have 30k on then this might not be a very effective means of deterening if they are blown .

It's actually a very good, and obvious way of determining if a strut is blown.
It's also free, and safe if you have compressed the spring to remove the top-hat.
