hi there
does anyone know the cause of steering rack play?
this can be felt when lifting up the wheel and trying to turn it left/right - there is some play in left side. Been told it is to do with steering rack.

Does anyone know if the whole rack should be changed or easier(cheaper) fix can be done?

Thx

Check tierods and steering rack bushings. When I had the stock rack, there wasn't a lot of play...do you mean when the engine is shut off or when youre at speed and you can wiggle the steering wheel around and the car still tracks straight?

sounds like a tierod. now if you look at your outer tierod and do the test. if you see the outer tierod has play its the outer tierod. if you dont see play in the outer its probaly the inner tierod. the only other thing i can think of is it the steering shaft joints have play but their would have to be play on both sides to be that you would think

Hi guys
the play can be felt when car is parked and left wheel is lifted up.
When holding the wheel i can move it left/right and can feel some play.
have not noticed anything when driving though...

Yeah, i think the guy was actually saying something about tierod...
how do i see if it is inner or outer? :)
is it hard to replace them?

cheers

when you shake the tire look at the outer tierod if you see play there its the outer if you dont see play its the inner. its not hard to change the outer tie rod the inner tie rod requires a tool to change it but its not hard
