You only need to mess with swapping tophats if you're using pillowball mounts with camber adjustment (even then I'm not sure it's a great idea).

To swap the legacy struts for complete wrx assemblies all you need to do is undo the brake and abs lines from the strut (you'll most likely want to slot the tab on the strut out to free the brake line).

Then undo the 2 bolts that hold the strut to the knuckle and the 3 at the top of the strut tower. Replace with WRX assemblies, get an alignment and you're done.

Why wouldn't you just order the coilovers they have listed for the Subaru Legacy BD5? That's the sedan version of your car. Since coilovers are quite a bit stiffer than springs, I can imagine you'll have any sagging issues in the rear, and then it'll be a direct bolt on.

not to mention since they are coilovers, he could always get stiffer rear springs from a company like swift and correct for sagginess.

I can get you Megan coilovers cheaper than those K sports.

so the BD5 suspension is compatible with my stock suspension, as in direct bolt in? see this is why i need to sit down and have a long chat with some subaru owners, cus i noe diddly squat about subarus

Subba (wagon) and dplacencia (sedan) both have 02-03 wrx Megan coilovers in their cars. As far as I know there's no sagging.

even if the springs aren't stiff enough and if adjusted even would have sagging, you can raise the rear up a tad and noone would ever know.

ok well if i were to get those coilovers, wich i was concidering, what would i have to do to mount them, can i just unbolt my current suspension and bolt in the coilovers?

make sure you have an alignment scheduled. you may also wish to get some form of rear camber adjustment.

honestly i only bought the megan coilovers so i could lower my car, but recently i have been doing AutoX and the damn coilovers are magical, all of my friends who drove in my car "IS" impressed with its handling, funny thing is that they weren't designed for the legacy but they work extremely well.

Alignment is a must after the install.

but back to topic, the instillation is very very easy, the only problem i had was getting my brake lines off the shock itself, i just hacked it off, besides from that everything is very very str8 forward.

-Remove the Wheels

-Once they are off have someone monitor the controlarm by using another jack to support it. (to keep tension off the strut nuts)

You might be able to see how i did it in this pic.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2008/04/DSCF0999-1.jpg

-Pull these 3 strut bolts from under the hood (Be sure the jack is fully supporting the control arm.)

-Once the car is at a good enough height (Enough for you to lower the control arm and pull out the suspension) start to unbolt the 2 bolts connecting the suspension to the control arm but leave the bottom bolt in place, (take of the nut but leave the bolt in.)

The bolt that i recommend leaving in is the one closest to my finger

One Snag you WILL see at this point is the brake lines literally run through the shocks, i just hacked it out.

There are other ways to do it but i chose this method. (Hack one side then bend it)

-Once you Cleared the brake line, Slowly lower the control arm using the jack placed underneath it and the top of the strut should completely clear the chassis.

This is what it looks like
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e12/boxertech/Image00001-5.jpg

Once that is cleared and out you can take out the 1 bolt you left in place then you can remove the whole strut/spring system then put in the megan coilover system doing the reverse, everything bolts up perfectly.

You might have heard about swapping tophats but with these you don't because the tophats rotate.
My camber angle is a good ways off but i believe depleancia got a better lineup.

The engine bay (i think DB said he had a better angle)

One more thing, The thing i hacked to take out the brake line is on the coilover but its not exactly how it was on the old strut, but my temporary solution is to tie strap it, will post pics in the morning.

THIS IS HOW I CHANGED MINE IN A NUTSHELL.
Any questions or concerns post them here.

Please note that this was my first time working with suspension.
