View Full Version : Different sort of intake...

So the snorkusectomy wasn't enough for me

I want to design an intake that gives you the best of both worlds:

Smaller tubing and a smoother filter for lower RPMs (to give loads of torque)
And a large tube with a cone filter to open up right around 3000 rpms to give you lots of HP.

Would there be any good way to do this? I heard somewhere that Scottzg did something like this and it was fairly easy, although my design might be a little more complicated...

Ideas, suggestions, anything!!!

Cheers

the difference is not that profound.

I just performed the snorkusectomy this weekend, and i also made a custom intake pipe from my foglight grill/intake thingy to the filter box, sounds pretty nice and im sure it gets better air flow. Should have pics later.
Peace,
Kyle

Well, I figured out how to do the valve thing (thanks for breaking down and helping' me scott :D) but I want to figure out a way to make it RPM specific. Does anyone know if there's a way to make a sensor that would open up the secondary part of the intake at 3000 rpms or so (by reading off the tach's electrical signals)?

Couldn't you rig up something like a NOS system? Isn't that RPM specific or pedal height specific? I mean the actual thing that shoots it into the system, for those not running a button.

What about a pipe within a pipe? Would something like that work?

Pedal Specific wouldn't be hard (just a line to the throttle body controlling the secondary intake) but I'd have to look into RPM equipment. So I'm picky...

Posted just before I did ;)

That sounds a little clumsy. I could run the TB out the side of my airbox (facing the front of the car, short intake) fairly easily, with minor cutting and sealing. Then I could just make the fender tubing smaller and it would still be cold air :)
