Hey there, I just picked up a '92 Legacy SS Auto, and it refuses to shift into 2nd gear until I hit 20mph, even at really low throttle. It's at about 3100-3300rpm when it finally shifts. Is this normal? Something is telling me no, because it just doesn't feel right. The trans fluid is good.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Andrew

Might just take it to Cottman Transmission or something and let them check it out for free. Might just be a bad gasket or something in there. I'm no transmission expert so I hope you can find out what the problem is. Call around to local transmission shops and ask them what they think the problem is. Might get lucky and be able to throw some additive in it to get rid of that problem.

Yeah, I'll have to call around when I get back next week. I'm learning how to keep the RPMs down until I hit 20mph, but it's still really annoying. I reset the ECU and there was no difference.

Could be a sticking valve. An auto transmission shop will be able to diagnose it rather easily, I would think.

i dont know if you car has this. but theres a manual(or power) button on the shifter knob make sure thats not on. because that will change the shift points. and i think it changes it to shift around 2850-3150 rpm minumium

Hey guys, sorry for the late response. Been gone a week. The manual button is not pressed on the shifter, and the power mode isn't activated either. I may take it by a tranny place sometime soon.

My car isn't shifting at redline. When I'm at full throttle in 1st gear, it just bounces off the rev limiter and doesn't shift. When I let my foot off the gas it shifts though. Any ideas?

I say take it to a shop and let them look it over. Thats probably your best bet because if it is doing that then there may be numerous things going wrong.
