A few days ago i removed the airbox silencer from my 05 Legacy. Then i heard from a friend that it "should" not be harmful for the car as long as no water can get in the hole left where the silencer used to be connected. Anyone have any input on that for me? I just dont want to do any damage to the car, just did it to hold me over a few more weeks till i feel like spending some money on an intake.

How high up is the hole?
If it's the same height as your headlight, that's the depth of the puddle you'd have to be in to do some damage. In which case I'd be more worried about myself, rather than the car.

The consensus is no, you won't do any damage but some people put a rubber plug in that hole anyway to give piece of mind.

My air filter is about 4-5 inches from the ground. Not a good idea at all. But I'm more in danger sucking in water than you are, you will be fine just taking the silencer off.
