I already have the stock keyless entry but with no alarm. Since I will be dropping all this money into it I might as well arm it. How good is a stock alarm as compared to an aftermarket alarm? What aftermarket alarm do yall recommend? Looking for quality and reliability and durability. I don't need something that will get messed up after a few rough rides offroad. Also looking for something that isn't easily disarmed or silenced with the snip of one wire.

I have a Viper 650VX on mine and I really like it. It's sensitive, but not too sensitive like some are. I imagine most alarms will be equally durable as long as you don't beat the s**t out of them when offroad.

I trust DEI (Python, Clifford) because they've been around a long time. I've had some good alarm systems before, and support petered out when the company either went away, or they decided to not sell alarms any longer (Alpine).

If you like paging features, look at the Matrix 50.5. It has SST mile long paging features. I've heard good things about Compustar, but can't comment because I've never owned one. The Compustar system does offer a method to page your cell phone, which is even more useful in my opinion.

Don't skimp on the options, which really makes the alarm worth it. Starter kill, back up battery for the system, or the siren is a must.

I might as well get one that pages my cell phone and I'm sure it also pages my remote. thanks for the info.

Just a warning. I've seen people post up about watching their cars drive away with the alarm going off. To me it is silly to invest in an alarm and not get the options that make it effective as a deterrent.

As important as brands go, what really makes the alarm is the quality of the install.

I was also thinking about getting one of the GPS locaters with the option of going accessing it online to disable the car.

You mean LO-Jack. I don't think you can locate your own car ( probably 'cause they fear you'll kill the thief before calling) but they only work if you call as soon as your car is stolen. If it's taken at night, and you wake up to find it gone, it might be found stripped. Starter/fuel pump kill is a must as well as back up battery and 2 sirens (1 outside and 1 in for deafening decibles)

Don't mean to bring this back from the dead, but I was looking to add to my factory keyless and came upon this. I used to have Avital, Prestige and Alpine. All of which offered plenty of options. Our Scion's alarm is based off the Prestige with hybrid components from Alpine. My bike will soon see an Alpine based alarm.

If you watch the tv show It Takes a Thief you will see the types of alarms I am talking about. Yes there is a system out there that allows YOU to go online and locate your car thru the GPS locater and its not LoJack and you can also enable or disable your vehicle from any computer. Its similar tho. There is also a system that makes it so you can't start the car unless you do it in a certain order but I don't want to have to worry about remembering the order.

Heh,

I'm a lurker so I didn't see your thread.

Anyway, I thought Alpine got out of the alarm business. I don't see anything on their website.

My Alpine alarm was very good in that it never had any false alarms. But damn did the remote range sucked. I almost had to be standing right next to my car to disarm it, which is one of the reasons why I switched to Clifford.
