Is it worth the extra money as compared to a normal battery?

If you have a decent stereo system, it is worth it in my opinion. Otherwise a normal battery is fine.

Optima's are strange creatures though. Leave a car for a little while not running and you may kill it. If you ever have to charge it, do a trickle for only a few hours.

Fortunately I bought my battery at Costco, I had one die on me prematurely and they replaced it for free.

Well I do plan to add a new head unit and speakers to basically upgrade my original upgrade and also add an amp and a couple of subs.

I've had 2 Optima's in 4 years and BOTH died in less than 2 years. Optima's were really good years ago when they first came out but got cheaper after a while. My Red Top was powering an '04 Nissan Frontier with an Alpine h/u and a Memphis 1100W Class D amp and one Pioneer 12. Lasted a little over a year then was DOA. Replaced it was a Blue Top and replaced my Pioneer 12 with 2 Memphis 10's and replaced all speakers with Memphis and added another 75X4 amp for the speakers. DOA 1.5 years and 6 months AFTER pulling from the Frontier and sticking into my 98 OB with an Alpine h/u and everything else stock. I will NEVER buy another Optima battery and HIGHLY recommend a Napa Dry Cell over an Optima ANY day. Cost is cheaper than the Optima and quality is mucho better than the Optima's of today.

I had no idea they were that bad. Are there any other gel cell batteries that last? I want to switch to a gel cell because they can hold up better to beatings.

My red top last me a little over 5 years. # year in my GT, after that it sat in my garage for a few months. Put it in my Accord (never charged it) when I got it had that for a few months, then sold that and got a Neons and had it in there for almost 2 years. Sold the neon and the battery was still going no problems.

I can't remember when I bought my red top but I think it was around 2000 or 2001 and it seems fine. I drive my car daily and have a regular radio.....

Now I am wondering when it is going to die on me!

I had one, lasted a year, got a replacement, been fine since (3 years now).

I have left my dome light on and what not, no problem hasn't left me stranded yet. Actually going to the drive ins tonight for two movies, we'll see how it holds up to that

If you goto a drive-in movie you have to go only with your lady friend and no one else!!! Whats wrong with you? The back seat in a Subaru are rather comfortable and roomy just so you know.:wink:
