New Member from Missouri

Hello,

I'm a new member here as well as a first time owner of a Subaru Legacy. I'm from Columbia, MO (Missouri) and basically spend most of my time either working, taking classes for my Master's degree, or spending it with my wife. I have a 1993 L AWD Legacy. I adopted the car because my parents no longer wanted it. Having always driven various models of Toyota, I didn't know what to expect but I'm really enjoying the Subaru and I've decided to trade it out and use the Subaru as my main car and sell my old Toyota Tercel (which was in bad shape anyway).

I'm planning on doing some work to the Legacy so I hope I can post here and get some good answers when the need arises! Hopefully I'll have pics up soon as well. So far, I'm concentrating on removing this horrible purple tint adhesive scum that's on the back windows and I just replaced the headlight bulbs with a whiter light and put in a higher end CD-Receiver (I still need to put in higher grade speakers). I guess that's it for my intro!

Welcome, you know you will damage the rear defroster removing the tint?

I've read that damaging the rear defroster is extremely easy to do when removing the tint, however I'm hoping that using the ammonia and patience method will cut the chances down. I spent about 4 hours yesterday working on it and I removed about the top 3 inches. If I end up destroying the defroster, I guess I'll go to plan B, which is to replace the rear window. Oi.

There is a point at which I will not bother with DIYing things... if it looks like the job is going to pass 6hours, forget it. I would rather save up and pay for that job to be done by someone else.

Maybe look into a rear defroster repair kit. So if it removes the lines you can fix it, MAYBE it will be fine.

That's right, I'll go as far as building the motor (over time in my garage) but as for the swap it's self, no thanks.
