So i just picked up some of the JDM BG5 rims for my silver 99 Legacy GT.. and im gonna take a poll here. Should i paint them gold, or back to the silver stock color? I'm thinking gold.. but wanna get some opinions!
edit: here is a pic of my car just to show you what it looks like.. but now its also dropped.

I don't see an option for leaving it gunmetal
I say it looks nice the color it comes in and I don't think it would look good in any other color, but I don't want to make that a firm decision until proven.

i bought them painted black.. and i dont think they were gunmental to begin with.. maybe they were.. but i dont know.. im either doing the stock 'silver' looking color of the WRX rims.. or gold.

I would do one color, I never liked the limited rims, they always look dirty. When I was using CARBOtech brake pads the dust from them made my mesh rims look like the limiteds. Go silver

i dont think silver on silver will look good. i would go with gunmetal or a light/medium grey

nah..gunmetal is overdone...i dont like darker looking rims..

the ricer in me is pushing me to paint mine white, but for a silver car, gold like on the RS rims should be ok *my opinion*

Hmm, i dunno, its such a hard decision still.. cause i know gold would look great.. but silver.. might be a bit too plain on a silver car.. hmmm. move votes needed!

They come stock in anthracite or a bronzy-gunmetallish color. Exactly like the pic above of Vickis car. If you check member rides of awd_terror, his BD has them as well.
Stock color FTW for these babies.

Yeah, the stock color isnt too bad.. but every time i see someone paint their rims gunmetal with spray cans.. it always turns out super dark looking.

So go with a dark silvery gray and hit it with a clear coat.
My gunmetal came out dark, because that's what gunmetal is...

Yeah, i actually like the stock color.. i just dont think i can find a metallic wheel paint in that color.. only heavy dark gunmetal and silver.. so i guess silver it is.

oh sheeit.. that IS nice man.. i see you posted the pics in here! WERD! I think I might have to go with that color now that i see it on your car.. looks nice! Does it come out pretty flat looking or what?
Also.. did you mod the USDM bumper? looks nice man.. havent seen your car in a bit!

^^ not my car. It's from Cardomain, but I know it's a real car because the owner is in Lower Hutt, in New Zealand.
The stock color on these wheels is pretty flat... the base color isn't very deep.
It's a little darker than the 2004 optional wheels aka JDM B4 rims.

yeah, i like that color on the rims.. is that the paint you suggester.. or close to it? Hmm, if you can.. hit me up with that car domain link.. im looking for it but there are so many in the 1998 legacy pages.
Huffer

I don't have the cardomain link... I just typed in "subaru Legacy RS" into Google images.
Without having a stock wheel to color match a swatch to, it's going to be hard to get the color exact. But something darker than what you have is going to be a good contrast for the car.

cool, so that color on the pics above ^ is the stock color? I think I will try to look for something similar to that. If anyone has any input on what color might match closely.. that would be great.
edit: nice, i found the car domain:

Yes, that is the stock color. That's why when you first posted, and I saw you had black painted wheels, I told you to bring it back to stock.
Check out the 2nd post in this thread... next time listen to me! ;)

yeah, i saw that you said bring them back to stock.. and i would have gone with a color similar.. but i didnt want gunmetal.. because its too dark. I didnt know that you could just use grey and clearcoat over it and it would look about the same. Hmm.. now to find a shade of grey thats close to stock!

^ that looks more like chrome to me. I actually like how the paint came out.. and the rims look good.. but it just feels like its missing something.
Huffer
07-29-2008, 12:54 PM
No, it's a high gloss... not chrome. Chrome is more mirror-like.

I never said it was.. it however DOES look close to being chrome.. i guess i just dont like really shiny things. haha.
