Anyone had their rims PC'd before? If so how long did it last without chipping? Anyone had any issues with durability?

Powder Coat is durable but if you plan on off roading it will chip. You are better off painting them with a can and just touch up when ever they get too bad.

Was also wondering if there is much of a problem with them chipping when they balance them.

Yes, my friend had his new powdercoat chipped by the balancing machine.

What is it that the wheel manufacturers use to coat their wheels color wise? If powder coating will chip easily then what other ways can I change the color without it easily chipping?

powdercoating, but the place that you take it to must have experience in using it on wheels and curing it appropriately.

It takes a few weeks for the stuff to finally cure and harden btw.

I noticed that Subaru had a set of OEM steelies in 15x6 and thought about getting a set of those and get them powder coated and use those for the offroad tires.

I researched powder coating but ended up painting my wheels because of cost issues. the paint has stood up fine over a few months, with a lot of spirited driving and also use as my DD wheels. Added bonus: If the paint gets chipped, jsut touch it up for <$10.


A better option than powder coating IMO.
