Don't do it.

The LGT hood has a scoop molded into it - the lines curve up and out.
The WRX hood is essentially flat.

You could do it with an L hood, which has no cut-out but is flat.

That's some big custom work... and that scoop on the modified Legacy is a lot wider... I think it's wider than a regular WRX scoop.

I believe it would have to be just based on the size of the overall hood molding on the stock scoop.

I'm getting one of thos ginormus scoops...but i actually have the correct hole for it.

If there's no reason for a bigger scoop, why put one on?

Same reason for huge wheels, or spoilers for street cars. Not EVERYTHING needs to have functionality. All you hear is function over form, function over form. Break the chain people, jump off the wagon.

Same reason people get the Baja turbo hood for stock BE/BH's.

I think I'm the only one that goes with that rule around this forum anyway, dude  I see plenty of "non-functional" stuff being tacked onto people's cars here but I keep my mouth shut cause its none of my business.

If it's functional +1, but if it's not and it looks good +1 too

I personally don't care for functionality as long as it looks good, but if it's functional like deadlydave's scoop will be even better. It will look cool and function.

I see what you're saying--if all our cars were modded the same it'd be a really boring site.

Has anyone cut a hole for a GC impreza scoop into a Legacy L hood? I think it'd fit the design better. I see a lot of tacked-on wrx scoops around here: VW's, Hondas...:-(

I like the Baja Turbo hood on the BE--it's the only gen of LGT that didn't get a scoop.

+1 for GC Impreza hood scoop, would fit the body style a little better in my opinion.

Well there's going to be a tmic under that scoop and i need as much air as i can get flowing in there...

I will let you all know how it all goes...and frankly as costly as the swap's got whats the cost of another good really...

for the amount you'll be spending to make that wrx scoop fit, you could just get an FMIC

I get out often the piping on the FMIC's are retarded...I hate how the pipes cross over themselves...i haven't looked at a reversed intake set up with a FMIC...but on the wrx's i hate it...there is too much piping psi drop has to be 6psi with that much goig on....

wagonofdoom

its been proven on zilvia
even with 6ft of piping pressure drop is only a psi or two

Your current scoop is fine with the tmic. There really isn't a need to get into bigger sccops unless youre going with an xbox hueg tmic...it's a case of diminishing returns IMO...

Could you use the WRX scoop, combine with your hood, to mold a fiberglass or carbon fiber scoop that would 'mesh' with the shape of the stock hood? I couldnt, but I bet someone here could.

greenspeed
08-08-2008, 01:29 PM
I think i'm going to play with that idea...my hoods not the cleaniest anyways...but if i was going to really practice I'd get a smashed hood

So that idea was a bust...the scoops about 4 inches narrower then what I have and I wont be using it...so sad...another wasted purchase...grrrr

I'm currently installing a 2.5rs Scoop on my Legacy L hood. I will post some pics when done :)

12-02-2008, 03:07 AM
so.. if most of you are going for the looks over functionallity, why not just get a stick-on scooop?

decke48
12-02-2008, 01:55 PM
well it been shown the legacy hood scoop with 38mm insert flow as good as the STI's. but still keep the look of the legacy hood. so for looks and better functionallity ARC legacy insert FTW!

That black one looks great. I've been wanting to do this ever since I got my Legacy. Its got a TMIC under there and I'd love something a bit more aggressive for it. However the car is already 3 different colors and I don't want to pay to paint a hood so unless I find a dark green scoopless hood in one of the yards it wont be happening.

place your scoop on the area you want it on the hood. Trace around it. Then trace how big you want your hole. On the wrx scoop It has a bunch of extra plastic protruding from the bottom. I had to cut off all the extra plastic on the underside of the scoop to make it as flat as possible. Then cut the hole in the hood forward of where the air comes in the scoop, due to the scoop having a slight angle on the bottom.

Once you've got your hole cut in the hood, grind an area about 1'' around the hole down to bare metal. Now once, you sand the bottom of your scoop to rough it up, spray a couple coats of plastic adhesion promoter...I used bulldog. Now you are ready to mount the scoop. make sure you use an epoxy that is meant for mounting SMC/plastic/fiberglass or whatever to BARE METAL ! I would not recommend mounting it to an already painted surface, as you are trusting all your holding power to the PAINT itself. I used this stuff, it was another $10 for the gun... http://www.azautobodysupply.com/sem39nosmcst.html This stuff holds like CRAZZY! I got a couple drips on my hood, and they would NOT come off. I had to use 60 grit on the DA just to get em off. The only downside is that it takes a full 4 hours before it is sandable. I didn't use enough the first time, and had to apply a second bead around the edge of the scoop and sand again. When done correctly you can sand this stuff out to a PERFECT feather edge. Then you are ready to primer and paint :)

SMC also sells a finishing epoxy. It might be nice to have so you don't have to wait 4 hours to apply another coat....not sure. Iether way, good luck with the install ! its pretty straight forward. :)
