Just after acing two exams and basically solving my engine light issues, I'm walking around the block from my dorm to my car to go meet up with friends

-when i notice that theres a huge gaping hole in my triangle window, bricks laying next to my car.

My dash is torn apart to get my head unit, and my gps is gone. They even took a screwdriver set and even my small multitool. LAME.

and to top it off, while driving to a safer location aka home 150 miles away. My engine light comes back on despite bathing my EGR valve in Deep Creep and brushing it better than i brush my own teeth. AND it begins raining like crazy on the drive home. theres a huge void of nothingness in front of my shifter, pics to come :-(

I was supposed to be picking up new wheels tomorrow!!! and not even new fogs my brother got me waiting at home could cure my woes. :mad:

I know how you feel. I had the driver side window busted but they didn't get much. It was a young kid who did it and he was so young that they couldn't arrest him and the cops knew who it was. He tried to get my trim off for the HU but since mine is 2 piece he was too dumb to know how. He had been yanking on the A/C trim and then took a screw driver to the trim next to the HU and ended up messing up my dash by ripping out a piece of it. He then popped off my face plate and stuck the screw driver into the CD player and busted the HU.he got about $150 in zippos and a few other things including my busted pool cue while the good one was in a crappy case but was sitting next to it. Cheer up man cause they will get what is coming to them and the parts can be replaced and fixed. BTW when they broke into my car it was in the driveway.

it was like...literally across the st from my dorm, lol, right on campus, parked right behind a Boston Police car

lol...to add to it, this other poor girl on the same street got broken into the same way. A Boston and NEU cop car both came, talked to us, said they'd park and help file a report and all that...after 5 minutes parked talkin to themselves in the car, they both drove away casually :evil:

Insurance gave me a off the record statement they will probably be liable to cover the window and the "stereo" - which my friend says they reimburse for a stock radio. My GPS isn't covered =[

lol on subaruparts.com , a stock radio HU sells for 600+ LOL

I'm looking at the center instrument panel oem parts on subaruparts, and it's getting pricey :-(

btw, my vent air duct with the hazard signal button on it is broken as well, but...i can keep it in place. originally it was in my backseat.

It has an alarm...but i guess a really sucky one. the only time i've ever heard it is when i was messing with the neg battery cable early. The thing is weak... I guess while I'm repairing all the damage and reinstalling a new stereo and all that...I'll be looking into getting a new alarm system/starter/door lock deal.

I bet the main reason breaking in was for the GPS. That is what's hot right now, and just took whatever else they could. The GPS in the on the front window or in plain view is asking for it (that goes for anyone). Either way it sucks, hope the pay you well.

lol the GPS was like, NO where in plain view. It was stowed away, and my faceplate was as well.

Dude most of the times when something is stolen from you and it's something that is not in plain view it was stolen by someone you know. No one is going to break into a car to see if it has anything of value. Someone that you know or someone that has been in your car did it. other then that the only thing I can think of is that someone saw you put you toys away

They ruined your car man. They were amatuers too. Since our cars don't have trims around the top of the window it's supper easy to push and force the window down. Plus they had some empathy for you. Going for the smallest window in the car. It's definitely someone you know.

My room-mate I've talked to is convinced it's just this druggy dude that does it randomly wherever he is. My dad has convinced me looking for a low life like that is not worth it.

Still got my car. Window, Radio, and all the supports that were mangled in the dash should be covered. Waiting on my insurance adjuster to get things squared off.

-and yeah, luckily it was that window i suppose, my brother told me that he's pretty sure they replace those things in a snap.

Maybe things are looking up . . . I still have my SL-i and GroupA decals AND i may have sourced a ton of 04' WRX parts like seats and suspension =D

so after surveying the dash pieces, it looks like I'll be in the market for a whole cupholder assembly, main fascia [ the one with the cigarette lighter / socket on it ] , and sadly even the top vent piece with the hazards - they keep the cupholder in by these brackets that were obliterated.

After those 3 main parts, the rest of the damage I can subdue myself. Anyone know of local junkyards around southwest CT?

I can make it a day trip of swiping parts if i can come across a legacy.

low price, includes everything but the mount thats still in my car.

is it a bad idea to meet with the seller, check serial codes, hit "go home", and possibly confront seller and walk away with what might be my rightful piece of equipment?

i'd sure go check it out then get that guy busted for stolen property
but before you take it you should have a way to prove that its your gps not just the "go-home" thing serial # might be enough but you might had to have it registered with the manufacturer to prove that you own that gps with that serial #

The odds are that if this is the kid that took it, he is just some "waste of space" druggie. If you go the "proper" route involving the Police and the court system, it is possible, if you are lucky, that he might get a suspended sentence and maybe a years probation. Not worth your time and effort.

Go there alone, if your a wimp have some buddys waiting outside, prove it is your GPS, explain to the seller its your GPS and just take it. If he resists or "assaults" you in any way rip him to shreads.

You can always claim "Self defence".
