Theres your problem, the steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car :-)
Seriously, I never toyed with a 3rd gen so I can't help. But someone will jump in and pass on some info.

right.. ok first take your sourround away from the shifter, should just pop off, then you have to pop off the piece that has the cruise in it!, next there are 4 screws holding the giant black piece that goes around your cluster and flasher button 2 are above the cluster . one is located behind the pannel with the cruise, and the other... well , you kinda gotta take the piece that is sorrounding the radio and pull that back a little to expose it, you can do this yourself , but its way easier to get some help!, next you have to disconnect the flasher button from the big black piece (MAKE SURE WHEN YOU HOOK EVERYTHING BACK UP YOU RECONNECT THIS OR YOUR BLINKERS WILL NOT WORK AT ALL...found that out the hard way) ok almost there, next remove your ash tray and this is the part that gets everyone, where the ash tray used to be take you finger and feel the upper part there are 2 screw hidding up there and one on the back wall inside the hole!, once you get these 3 screws off, the sourround should pop right off!!!!
sorry if my words are jumbly!
