Going to be installing a JDM BD front bumper on the car.. need some tips on the install.. what i should do first, any precautions.. etc.. etc. Basically looking for the quickest way to do it.. and things I might want to do before hand.. etc.
Also, about the JDM fogs.. how do you adjust them? Someone told me before that i should mount the fogs up before i put the bumper on? That sounds weird to be.. but is it true?
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Take the old bumper off, put the new one on. A front bumper install doesn't get any easier.

Stock Bumper Removal.
- Disconnect Neg. Battery.
- Remove grille (4 tabs on top of grille) (use needle nose, sqeeze tabs together and push out.)
- Remove head lamps ( 2 10mm bolt on top, 1 on the side towards the grille.)
- Remove socket connecting to headlamps.
- Now you see 6 or 7 Push in tabs under grille and headlights, pop the tabs out with a flat head screw driver.
- Look underneath the license plate, there should be 4 push in tabs (same as above.)
- Remove foglamps (2 10mm bolt holding the bracket on top of fog lamps.)
- Remove socket connecting to fog lamps.
- Driver side, Remove wheel well liner ( 2 10mm bolt, 1 towards the front, 1 towards the door.)
- Inside of Driver side bumper, should be 1 10mm screw.
- Underneath Driver side bumper, should be a push in tab.
- Repeat above 3 steps for Passenger side bumper.
- Underneath center of bumper, should be 2 10mm bolt.
- Pull bumper from the center forward towards you.
- Done.
It be better if I have some pics to show. I just took off my bumper today to install my side markers. Let me know if you need help.

Are you installing a JDM bumper beam too? If so you dont need to take the headlamps off or disconnect battery.

Yeah, if you're replacing the whole shabang, no need for alot of the push pin stuff - which are just for the bumper fascia/cover.
When me and Reason got my bumper off. I took off my headlights, grille, and this tube thing next to my stock horn just for better access. Other than that. It's 2 17mm bolts on each side, 2 next to the battery, and 2 right under that black tube thing. After those are gone. Bumper beam is off.
didn't take TOO long, I'm sure if my bumper wasn't mangled, it could be a really quick job.

The reason why it took so long is I had to open the slot up with a pry bar to fit the bumper beam. It took longer for me to set up and put my tools away to swap my bumper.

^ what the fuck? umm..yeah.
So yeah, I'm installing the bumper beam / fogs as well.. so I guess it will be even easier. Is there any need to take the headlights out, or should I just do it anyways to have room?
Sounds good.. prolly gonna do it soon.. once it stops friggin raining!

Send me your USDM fogs.

No, I said SEND, not sell. ;)

hahaha. yes, i know you said send... :P
do you know how you go about adjusting the projector fogs? or how much they need to be adjusted? Anyone?
Huffer
08-11-2008, 12:18 PM
There are adjustment screws on them... how much adjustment they need is like asking how long is a piece of string!

how long is a piece of string? jk.
but yeah, i guess you right.. but what i meant to ask was.. WHICH of them usually needs to be adjusted more.. because of the whole JDM land LHD thing? Also, will they work just like the USDM ones when adjusted properly.. or are they always going to be a little bit 'JDM' if you get what im saying.

If you are taking the bumper beam off at the same time you DON'T need to remove the headlights. I could have sworn I said this already.

great.. that will make it wayyyy simpler then. Also, when doing the fogs.. do the wires match up.. or will i need to figure it out before hand.

Not sure what the JDM fog wiring looks like.

They're different. You're going from a simple on/off bulb to one that has a "city" light (sidelight) AND a projector. You can wire it just about anyway you want, so that projectors come on with fog button, and sidelights come on with your main headlight sidelights. Or indicators, or with your projector fogs.

Hmm, damn was checking out the DIY and it looks friggin complex. I hate wiring stuff.

Just swap the bumpers and worry about the fogs later. Don't make it a bigger project than it really is.

well i cant very well mount the USDM ones on the jdm bumper beam can I? Hmm, either way.. its gotta get done at some point.. since I already have the fogs.. and thats the reason i bought the JDM bumper.. but..we'll see.

You don't need fogs to drive. I'm sure you can do without for a few days till you figure it out. One day take the time to swap the bumpers and do the fogs after. What's the big deal?
d1giPhux
08-11-2008, 04:13 PM
Its not a huge deal.. but the car is out of commission anyways for right now.. so.. i think i will be doing that anyways. You know where i might be able to find some more info out about wiring up the fogs and such? do i really need relays and all that crap? I'm assuming i do.

well how do you want to hook them up?
d1giPhux
08-11-2008, 05:24 PM
I'm really not sure of my options on how to hook them up? I want the fog lights to work with the stock button, the 'city lights' or whatever could be either wired to the parking lights.. or.. whatever. I'm not sure. How are they hooked up in JDM land? what would be the easiest /most economical?

There are 2 screw in type tabs right under the corner of the headlight. I'm thinking of that because I have JDM headlamps and the whole assembly have to be remove...my bad.

Thanks for that diagram.. see.. i really need something like that to help me hook the jdm ones up..because they have the side lights too..
why in the DIY thread is there a need for so many relays? I really just want to hook this up so that the lights turn on when the fog light button is on, and the low beams are on, and off when the high beam goes on.. basically just like the stock USDM ones.
Also for the side lights.. i guess those should just go on when the parking light is on right?
If someone could make me a diagram / pic like the one Okin posted.. that would be awesome and WICKED helpful.
I will be using the stock fog light button on the inside of the car..

It's pretty simple.
If you need power to a JDM light to replicate/duplicate a USDM light, just vampire wire tap the line just like for the JDM sidemarkers. Likewise tap the signal wire. You're just telling the bulb to turn on and off.
You can install an inline fuse in case, but worst case scenario you'll blow a bulb.
You will need to run a separate line for your projector sidelights because you want them to switch on with your sidelight/indicator? If so, run a line to your sidelight/indicator.
Your main fog projector beam will be hooked directly into your fog harness - one ground, one power.

So technically for now.. if i just wanted to hook up the main projector fog.. i can just install the fogs and wire them to the current harness that is on the car? The side light projectors on the jdm fogs.. what do they usually have them hook up to in japan? why would i want to hook them up to the indicators (turn signal).. wouldn't that be sort of weird looking to have them blinking as directionals?
I'm going to try to make a picture.. or if someone car.. even something simple in ms paint.. its a lot easier for me to understand stuff with pictures.. im a more visual person.
Thanks huffer for the info.. cleared it up a bit.

What Huffer is telling you you can hook them up anyway you want. You can hook both lights as fogs. You could do the projector as fogs and the sides as directionals. You can hook one set up to the high beams leave the other as fogs, you could hook them both up on one or two separate switches. I have a handful of possibilities to choose from.

Drawing it out on paper is good - helps to clear things up. The other thing you have to do is just spend some time looking at the existing harness and tagging wires.
You can wire up the bulbs anyway you want - they're just bulbs. You could hook the projectors to flash with your indicators if you wanted.
In Japan (IIRC) the projectors come on with the main beam (just like the headlights) and the sidelights run like DRL's...
The difference is that the Jap cars have a wire harness with plugs already set up, whereas the USDM cars have a different wire harness.
Much like the headlights and sidemarkers... the US cars have to mod the harness/plugs to make them work.

Okay, well...I'm really not sure what option I should go with.. I just want to do something easy.. not too complex.
Would it look stupid if both the projectors and the sidelights were running while the fog light button is pushed 'on'?
How would you wire the side lighs so that they worked like Daytime running lights? Do the JDM projectors basically do this when the lights are in the 'off' position.. or what? I'm not really sure.. since I basically just leave my lights on all the time.. day and night.
Also.. can someone clarify just a bit more which wires I should tap for the simplest setup? I know.. i sound retarded.. but this is how im currently seeing it:
JDM Projector -> USDM FOG Harness
JDM Side lights on projector -> high/low beam or turn sig?
Thanks guys.. this is really helping me clear things up a bit.. then I just need to figure out where to put the fuses / relays.. if i even need any.
What exactly are the relays necessary for?

That's the easiest option. Run each light in series so that it's part of the chain.
How would you wire the side lighs so that they worked like Daytime running lights?
If you wire them to come on with your sidelights, then you wouldn't even need the foglight switch anymore. They'd just take power and signal from your sidelights.

Alright, we'll for now I will just wire the projector light to the stock USDM harness. Should I use any type of fuses or anything, or is it not really necessary?
I will figure out what I want to do with the side lights later, however.. i think it might be cool to wire them up to the parking light.. which, wouldn't that just be the side light?
Cool.. thanks for the help man.
