STI Rims on a 98 GT Wagon.

So, I've got a set of STI rims 5x100 and I'm looking to put them on my 98 gt wagon. Here's my question, what shock/strut combo can I run with them? It seems like no one make aftermarket suspension for this car. I don't want to go with coilovers because it's going to be a daily driver and I like a sporty but relatively smooth ride.

Any suggestions?

They make a good coilover that is smooth. It will also allow you to have the wider rims but with them wider rims you won't be able to turn as sharp without rubbing.

Hmm, have you bolted a wheel up to see if it works with stock suspension? Just jack up a corner, pull the wheel off, and put the STi wheel on. IIRC, if you run a 205 45R17 tire, you should be able to get these to work with stock suspension...

I have a pretty good feeling that "STi" wheels with a 5x100 fitment will be perfectly ok on your car. :wink:

They're 2004 gold sti wheels with the stock tires on them.

They'll be fine. You could throw them on anytime.
You will notice a harsher ride because of the different profile and the comparative lack of rubber... but a decent set of struts and springs will help.

If you're just DD'ing with even some light autox or spirited driving, KYB GR2 struts + Whiteline Control Springs will be just fine.

you could buy the struts for sale in the classifieds from CarlitoQC, or from ebay from "jdmwerks". KYB.com has dealers listed too. Model numbers are in their PDF catalog.

There is a Red wagon with these on in Danbury and our own Sli member 2.5GT has these wheels on his Sedan too on stock suspension iirc

Those are the wheels! I actually know the guy that has the red wagon in Danbury that is running these wheels. He put them on after he got his coilovers. That's why I'm asking if they'll fit a wagon with struts/springs.

I just ordered a set of whiteline control springs so I guess I've committed to trying it! Just need to get some struts now.

KYB GR-2 you mean...

for BOLT on fitment with the springs you have ordered, you have the following choices:

Monroe
KYB GR2 (best bang for buck and easiest to source)
Bilstein - Jap spec only, Bilstein USA only provides struts for the FRONT.
Koni inserts into stock struts...probably special order only, requires hacking up struts.

Again, you can use the wheels right now, you don't have to wait for any suspension pieces to make it fit.

The wheels will fit, but not sure about the tire size. I am running 215/45R17s Stock suspension.
