Ive got a 02 gt limited sedan in 5speed thats starting to get a little rough on the shifts. What i mean exactly is that its getting harder to put it into gear and its now impossible to shift from 2nd to 1st without being fully stopped.

Any ideas?

Is yours hydraulic or cable? If its hydraulic then you might have a leak or just need to be bled. If its cable then just tighten up your cable.

It could be the synchros. My old 5 speed was getting that way until I had new synchros.

You can try to relieve the problem by swapping fluid with redline synthetic. That seemed to help when I was having problems.

Could be syncros, bushings in the shift linkage, a bent or damaged shift fork, syncros, or even a bad transmission mount. If it's just hard going into gear, then it's probably a syncro. But, without seeing the car, nobody can give a reliable diagnosis, which is why you should take it to a shop if you want it properly diagnosed. ;)

It could also be a mis-adjusted clutch throwout, but that's unlikely. Does the car creep in first gear at a stop on level ground with the clutch all the way in?

Your throwout bearing could be shitting the bed. I get myself a clutch kit.

first i would start with changing your MT fluid. i run 75w110 amsoil syncrogearmesh. from there is would look at your hyd fluid if it looks really dirty, drain and flush it. next step i would look at your clutch line(the rubber one) to see if it has any bulges in it, if not the next thing you should look at is you shifter bushings. after you have done this if it is still doing it tell us and well go from there.

Where can one get good clutch kits anyways? And also.. what do you guys recommend? Stage 1 / 2? OEM spec? Etc.

I had a recommendation from rougeben awhile back for the ACT Streetlite fly wheel + street clutch...

The Exedy OEM stuff is good too, especially for our cars. I would tend to match the LW flywheel with the same brand clutch, just for consistency.

The GripForce clutches on ebay are EXEDY units painted blue.

GruppeS on Nasioc gave me a pretty competitive quote for an ACT clutch + LW flywheel awhile back. My clutch will need replacing after winter.
At the same time I will be picking up a 5mt snout cover w/ throwout bearing.

With regard to jhip20's issue of not being able to downshift into 1st from 2nd unless you're at a complete stop, this sounds like a synchro issue or it could very well be the clutch not releasing all the way. In my gearbox the gears are VERY notchy, but this may be attributed to the kartboy SS I have installed.

Are those 'r1 racing 'clutches on ebay absolute crap? They are pretty cheap...

Dunno about R1 Racing, but the F1 Racing items on ebay are basically Exedy units:

Sounds like typical wear on synchros. I've never driven a 6-year-old Subaru that will let me glide from 2nd to 1st without rev matching. Even on a brand new Subaru it wasn't smooth enough to prevent me from learning how to double-clutch.

Drain your trans fluid and refill with Redline Lightweight Shockproof 75w90. That problem should go away
