Am I on crack for even considering 15" winter wheels for my 04 LGT? I'd like the extra sidewall cushion, but something tells me that 15" wheels won't fit over those 292mm front rotors. I'm thinking about 15s from an 02 Legacy..

Anyone been there / done that?

The 02 legacy should have the same size brakes as your 04, so if you've found 15" wheels from an 02 legacy/outback then they'll fit on your 04.

The '02 rims are from a Legacy L, I believe, which has smaller front rotors. 272 or 275 mm. My rotors are 295 mm.

I stand corrected. All 02's should have the 10.7" front disc with the 11.3" rear disc.

With your 295mm rotor (11.6"), that means that even if the 15" wheel clears the rear disc brake (11.3") it will not clear your front brakes.

On that page it does say that the 02 GT model shares the same brakes as the L, but it gets 16x6.5" wheels.

On this page it says the 04 GT has 11.4" front brakes, not 11.6".

I conclude that the 15" wheels from an 02 Legacy L will not fit over your 04 GT brakes.

Thank you, sir, for the impeccable analysis. I agree!

You could be ghetto and run the 02 wheels on the back...

I would have to get 15" spinners.
