Well, I really want projector HIDs, but I don't like the look of retro-fits in the L headlights, just looks unusual. What I'm thinking about, though, is getting an HID kit that isn't projector, but painting the inside of the housing black, or just darker. My question is, since the housing is of a chrome-like finish, if I paint it black is it going to affect the light output? What kind of other options do I have?

yes it will affect it because the light doesn't reflect off a shiny surface anymore. I guess I see what you are trying to do in terms of trying to limit the area of output to the middle. It's not going to come out like a projector though. The only choices you have is retrofit or just do regular HID. It doesn't look that bad.

I had bought 350z projectors to retro into the top of my GT headlights, but sold them to get the Rev.D's I have now. Also they're small so I think they'd fit just fine.

I'd like to see that done with eyelids and some halo's honestly. Mmmmmmm... sinister...

one of the smaller, single beam projectors should work with what you're planning. You'll be keeping the stock highbeam, which I don't really think is a problem if you just want HID for most of your driving.

The Z projectors, while small enough, don't really have the same output as some of the others though, I would suggest something like a TSX or S2k projector. aftermarket Hella HID projectors also come in different sizes, so those are another option, but they usually cost more than OEM take-offs.

You're not going to get anything made for HID to fit that isn't a projector setup though, are you taking about a reflector-based HID like on some cadillacs?

I had the same scenario. I didnt want to change up the headlights and goto a HID setup but after seeing some results with JDM projector headlights and I factored in the cost of buying projectors + HIDs + time, I opted to buy the JDM's instead. I'll install HID's after, but for now these should have a better output than my USDM ones.

retrofits will be far superior than the stock jdm hids, BUT its a matter of persona preference of style. id rather have the performance. If i had the L headlight id put in the ls430 headlight projectors. here is the output of the low beams.

I guess? I really don't know. I always told myself that I wanted HIDs as long as they were projectors. But after seeing yours and Kahnfucious(?) set-ups, the projector in the L headlight housing didn't really work for me.

he didnt use a shroud making it unstylish, he went with performance first. U can make a custom shroud and make it look OEM.
