I have a question about the power steering rack on my 99 LGT. Where the 2 lines go into the rack on the left side, are there any seals / gaskets behind where the 2 lines go in? If so.. anyone have a parts manual or blowup of this part.. that way i can see what gaskets I would need.. or if the whole rack needs to be replaced. Thanks.

no gaskets.. there flare nuts. some with teflon tape wouldnt hurt. the only gaskets on the rack are one on both side near the inner tie rod. and the three gaskets in the pinion assembley. a rebuild rack cost around $200. a rebuild kit for the pinion assembly cost $20 w/o the bearing +$6 for bearing, the rebuild for the rack is $30 but is a pita to rebuild.

Well mine is currently leaking from the 2 lines on the left side.. so.. I'm not sure what options the stealership will be giving me when i take it to them.. but I'm assuming they are going to try to make me replace the whole assembly.. is this necessary?
also, would this be like what im looking for (or where can i find a cheaper one):

idk they will most likely make you replace the whole assembley. they do sell the lines seperatly. and yes thats what you need.

so it could be the line itself that is just leaking? Because its leaking at where both lines connect to the steering rack itself. Dammit.. fucking subarus.

Great... well i just cant a'wait to spend money to figure out something is fucked up on my car. Thanks for the info at least.. I was hoping there would be some type of gasket or something whe the line screws in to save me the hassle of buying a new damn rack.

Hey.. anyone know if this steering rack will work? And when it says 'rack and pinion'.. that just means the whole steering rack assembly correct?

I just need to make sure if I'm going to get a new one.. it will be decent quality manufacturer and not TOO expensive.
If someone can help me find one on ebay that will for-sure work.. that would be great. I dont know much about steering components. =/

Are you looking for new? I have the one out of my GT still.

Really? Its the full steering rack? (i dont even know what this includes).. but.. shoot me a pm how much you would want for it.. i might be interested. I needa have the shop look and see if they can 'fix' mine.. but I think I will probably need to get a 'new' one..
how often do these go bad? I heard it wasn't that common..and I wonder if it would be a good idea putting an even older one into my car?

a steering rack includes everything but the outer tie rods. and yes that ebay rack will work but im worried about the core price since they dont list it.. and if they would refund it.

The one I have is minus one inner tie rod. I also told him I would be weary about the core charge.

They list the core charge on one of the ones i was looking at.. $93.. and they refund it as well.. so it says on their ebay page. $119 for a new one isnt bad at all. Still need to see if mine can be fixed.. if not.. i might go that route. Just sucks its so much in labor to pull the bitch out. What exactly is required of pulling one out?

a couple of bolt holding the high and low pressure lines . the two flare fittings. the outer tie rod must come off the hubs and the four bolts holding the rack

4 hours..? i'd say 2 hours at most. well if you bring parts they might ramp up the labor for "head costs"
