Phase 1/ Phase 2 engines

I am relatively new to Subaru and I keep reading about the different phase engines. I was wondering what years of the 2.5L were phase 1 and what ones were phase 2? Is there anyway to tell what it is other than knowing the year of the car? Any help will be appreciated.

a easy way to tell on the 2.5l phase 1 is DOHC phase 2 is SOHC

The 99 Impreza and Forester had the phaseII EJ25.

As mentioned, the other way to tell is to check out the cam setup. The Phase I was DOHC and Phase II was SOHC.
