URGENT Engine+Gearbox Impreza 2.5RS -> Legacy BE/BH?

Hi,

as you might know I own a
EDM Legacy BE/BH 2.5 Station Wagon
And I'm looking for a Gearbox replacement.

A friend of mine bought a wrecked Impreza 2.5RS Coupe MY00 for rebuild&Turbo Upgrade (will become a Track Tool).

I could buy the Powertrain and use the Engine and Gearbox. The question is: Will it blend???

The MY98 RS has a final drive of 4.11 whereas the EDM Legacy has a final drive of 3.7

My idea is to swap the front diff from my old geabox to the RS gearbox to get "longer" transmission ratios (lower the RPMs on the Autobahn ...).

Whats your opinion?

As long as you use both the same transmission and rear diff, you'll be fine. You may have to reuse your driveshaft, which isn't a problem.

Ok but I want to use the old legacy diff in the impreza gearbox. the question is: can I mount the pinion from the Legacy gearbox (Dual range!) into the "single range" Impreza gearbox?

Check the transmission code on the plate under you hood to double check your final drive.

I checked this already:

the Impreza RS2.5 Coupe has a final drive of 4.11
the Legacy GX2.5 Station Wagen has a final drive of 3.7

The Geabox swap makes only sense if I can use the Legacy front diff (implies the final drive of 3.7) in the RS gearbox. If I would use a setup of 4.111 (e.g. if i use the rear diff of the Impreza too) my speedometer would display 11% less speed. At least the german cops don't like it ... :roll:
