hey guys i just got my jdm airsplitter in the mail so i figured i would do a write up on how to strip, polish and mount onto a usdm hood. pics will be up by the end of the day with step by step instructions.

list of materials:
paint stripper
clean rags or old throw away shirts
coarse sponge
needle nose pliers or a clip remover.
soap and water
and a lot of time
and an old tooth brush or something small that can fit in the holes.

step 1
-lay down newspapers or just something over the area you are working on so it doesnt get dirty or effected by the chemical.dont make a mess like me

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2008/09/P1010014-1.jpg

step 2
-use the pliers or clip remover to remove the rubber vent off of the splitter there are a total of ten clips.

step 3
- wash and dry the surface of the splitter then generously apply the stripper in a very thick layer. the thicker the layer the less work you will have to actually do.

step 4
- once the paint has started breaking down use the coarse sponge and go over everything and wipe it down. continue untill it is completely down to the metal. power washer comes in handy

step 5:
- remove the inner hood lining or you can just wait and mount the spliter over the inner hood lining.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2008/09/P1010023-1.jpg

step 6
- polish the splitter ( pics coming once i get to this point)

step 7
- re install vent and then re mount the splitter either over the hood lining or remove the lining... it's your choice.

lmk me know if anything is unclear and i will do my best to help you out.

Im just curious as to why you would install a fancy splitter on an NA subaru...

i got it for basically free and insteado f running an open vent or the stock steel plate this seemed worth having. i mean this would be the same diy if i had a turbo legacy ....

you can call it my one piece of rice on my car.

It may be useless on a N/A but it's a good write-up nonetheless.

(note: I do not in any way claim to be a professional in this matter. The following is no more than an educated guess. If someone smarter than me corrects me on this matter, listen to them. Have a nice day and thank you for flying Funk Airlines.)

I guess I don't really see how a splitter like that would be totally useless on an N/A Subie, when it would still help cool the intake care to some degree. At least more so than how it happens in stock form. The intake still snakes behind a very hot engine, even if it's a bit higher than the block. I mean, heat still rises as far as I know.

i have done some deep reasearch and based on our engine layout and engien bay design all moving air is forced down under the car. the spiltter i will say was basically free and is better than running an open scoop or the stock backing plate which is solid and i still have mine and once i finish polishing because it takes so long i will post up pics of the stock compared to the new. plus i also have had an idea of the hood scoop intake for quite some time and pretty much think i have it figured out and this is better than running an open scoop in the rain. since school started i havent had much time to do anything but come the weekend i will have this polished up.

and theres so many poeple on this forum and every other forum that waste money on the stupidest mods and even then are you getting what you paid for cause i most definately believe that my splitter was worth every penny. bottom line dont hate cause eventually a few people will do this mod, and thats why i posted it.

Dude calm down - I still have no idea what you've done as you have no pics. I took the backing plate out of my GT hood scoop and all I ended up with was a wet knock sensor and a hiccuping engine.
Which is, essentially what I see happening to you because your splitter doesn't have a TMIC to line up with. There's no moisture seal.

This is interesting. I definitely need a splitter with my setup, but I have no idea where to buy one of these.

Nice.. either way, it seems useful because its bringing cooler air into the engine.. however.. water might be a problem in that case that you would need to solve. Any clue on where to look / what to search for on RS25?

the intake you are looking for is called the gravel sport I think the thread on rs25 is" who wants a gravel sport intake" in the na tuning threads..... not sure though

You didn't actually shoot pics of the splitter mounted, that would've been handy. I think this is a non-functional mod for a car without a TMIC. I modded a USDM 2.0L WRX splitter to fit my Legacy hood and intercooler, I would've benefitted more from the one you have.

honestly man i got it for free and figured it's better than the stock metal plate or running it open. i got rid of it after i finished it but i have another one i just got from a friend he wants me to clean his up and paint it hi-heat black. so i will finish this write up haha
