Power antenna?

My 93 legacy wagon had a broken power antenna. Can I replace it with a standard antenna or do I have to find an aftermarket replacement power antenna?

Aftermarket replacements usually work just fine - you don't have to go power, but I like to replace factory with factory, or better than.

Ok, so I found an aftermarket power antenna, BUT it only has two wires on it, the stock white plug on my old one had three. What are these wires for, and how do I fix this? I'm not good with electrical work....so I'd like a helping hand:)

I'd say if you're not good with electrical stuff, and you don't want to mess around with it (I'm the same way) then I would buy a replacement that matches and is plug n play.

However - it might help if you can post up any pics of the old part vs. what you are looking at buying.

I don't have the stock antenna anymore. But I can take some pics of what I'm trying to say.

This is the setup that goes into the car. The white plug is what my old antenna was plugged into, it also had THREE wires, not two like the new antenna.

This is the new antenna. It only has 2 wires on it. It also doesn't have a plug on it.

Umm... I really can't tell... I'm pretty sure the three wires on your stock antenna were probably:
black = ground
white = power
XXX = signal

The replacement one is probably:
black = ground
green = signal
red = power

You could strip the wires and just try them out, as long as you've grounded correctly you should be fine.

I do recommend a multi-meter though.

The stock antenna had a ground wire going onto the car, AND the three wires for the plug. Then there's the black thick wire that plugs into the thick black cord in the car. I guess I will try it out and see if stripping the wires and plugging them in will work....

Thought I should add a pic of my antenna for future reference. Bought at the local auto parts store for $15 and used the rubber surroundings from the stock antenna as the thing that came with the purchased one wasn't tilted enough (or didn't look good when tilted)
