My Custom Fiberglass Box. Which probably should go in ICE...

First, lemme say why I didn't put it in ICE...

1. I'm looking for comments from people more than just the ICE guys.
2. I thought it'd be good.
3. "Automotive, Subaru Only" still applies to an 08 Impreza :P

Layers 1 and 2 applied. Dry time was 2 hrs in the sun.

It's taken out, and cleaned. Now to clean her up and put some more of this stuff together.

I'm not sure if I'm entirely happy with it fully or not, but i think i'll put it all together, see how it looks, and then go onwards.

What I plan this to look like @ some point...

I have a Cap i plan to put in place too @ some point in this scheme, I just haven't got there - I'd like to get this done before I go and start wiring the car up.

I wasn't able to find any more RESIN in this small assed town ... so i'll have to wait until Monday when i head to the City. :-\ ...

After that, it's add more layers to the original Fiberglass enclosure, Put the wooden dowel sub plate in place, fleece, and fiberglass the fleece.... i've got an interesting project going here...

that takes up to much useful room for my taste. i use my wagon all the time. so I bolted the amp to the back of 1 of the seats. and use a bungee cord to keep my sub in, So I can undo the sub and use it to put stuff like bikes. or trash containers or bodies... you know? the essential stuff? But clean install none the less.

my friend just got two i think 10" jackhammer subs he has about 1' of room from the back of the trunk to the subs thats no trunk space lol

sounds nice though he shut the trunk and it rattled and wasnt turned up all that loud either

dyno mat? Just buy the foam stiff for doors to prevent drafts and It works just as good

I had two twelve inch subs in my car and they were just in one big box that sat in the very back of the trunk and the only problem was that anytime I wanted to take my bike anywhere or anything that required my trunk I had to take the subs in and out.. SO I one day I decided to do a sub box like this guys so I could utilize my trunk space better and man it was not worth it......putting a sub box in the area right behind the fender well is a terrible Idea. First of it is incredibly hard and uncomfortable to do the fiberglassing in your car and not to mention the fiberglass/resin smell stays in your car for months. And Second you have to deal with clearance issues like the fact that the hinge of your trunk goes right through that area and has to be able to move up and down. So if anyone is thinking of making this kind of custom fiberglass box for that area I would not suggest it unless you are willing to spend lots of time and not to mention money.

I chose not to go with the MDF because of exactly what you said - it uses up too much space.

However, having already done the major work - and I had an exhuast fan pulling the fumes out while I did it - only resulted in a little bit of fiberglass resin smell...

I understand the sound quality isn't going to be as good - but in all honesty - I just want some thump back in the trunk - i might even run this sub @ dare i say it... 8ohms instead of 2... :twisted:

Yeah I probably should of thought of the fan Idea when I started to do it...oh well. now my trunk smells all funky cause I have two of those Christmas tree fragrance things in my trunk and those and the resin smell combined do not smell good... But anyways I was actually pretty happy with the sound quality I got out of the one sub enclosure....That thing really bumps...people definatley look when I go by, and I am only half way done I still have one box to do...

I just put Dynamat in my Equinox, works like a charm! i got the 4x8 and put it in the wheel wells and dash. It weighs like 20 pounds though haha. Sounds mighty good with the doors speakers and stock woofer in there!
