Ram section soon to come***
My old '91, right after I covered it in truck bed liner and spray painted the bumpers and wheels black

And then a couple after I bought fiberglass fender flares that would convert it to the '95-'01 front end

The 1991 was fun, but I bought my Durango and the Outback was still at our house, so I was forced to get rid of a vehicle. The 1991's front axle just got completely blown up and it was approaching 300k miles, so I just told everyone I knew that if they came and took it, it was their's for free. Someone stopped by a week later and took it away on a car dollie. I've gone past their house a few times and it looks like all they're doing to it is slowly swapping in the parts they can onto their newer ranger.
But I missed my old Explorer a lot, and after I got rid of the Durango, I really missed 4WD in general. So...
I bought this

The catch is, it's covered in truck bed liner!
There goes 5MPG in extra weight...
Be damn hard to scratch it though :smt023

Is yours also a twin I-beam?
Yep, it's got the twin traction beam front suspension. It rides like a covered wagon in stock form, but I still love this truck through all of that.
Tell me you didn't cover the wheels in bed liner too...
Nah, wheels and bumpers are flat black spray paint. I considered it, though. Seemed like a bad idea.
Heh, you need to get some Rhinoliner stickers to put on there now!
Just bought these fenders and hood!

Pics will be up tomorrow. It currently has no grille, headlights, or front bumper, so it looks a little rough for the time being.

It's hard to tell how much flare these really have, but it's 6" out each side

Looking from the back, you can really start to see the '95-'01 look starting

Original plastic inner fender shows where the original flare was. Looks like I'll be modifying the metal piece toward the front of the flare, too.

Yeah....my gaps aren't perfect, but this was the first time I've ever done this sort of thing.

What benefit do the new fenders have for the vehicle? More clearance? I'm not aufait with the Explorers so one SUV 4x4 looks like the next to me. ;)
More tire clearance, yes. The suspension I'm going to install gives me 5" of lift and 10" of suspension travel. With stock fenders, I can run 31" tires. With these fenders, I can run up to 35" tires without rubbing. I'll probably go with 33" tires for the time being since I don't want to regear my axles quite yet.

I was up skiing at Keystone the other day and a 1st gen fozzy covered in bed liner parked right next to me, that thing looked so mean ahaha.
