Help with my BE

I got my license yesterday and have been driving my 01 Legacy around a bit trying to get used to it pretty much and tonight it started to pulse or glitch what ever you want to call it, when you up shift. Just going through the gears in every gear it was like a pulsing feeling like it was running out of gas or something like that. There is 3/4 tank in it, so its not running out of gas. And the check engine light is on but I dont know what it is for. Any help would be appriciated.

Edit, the car has 170 000 kms. and it is 5 speed

Yeah i can drive a 5 speed best kind its after you get into the gear like once you get on the gas it gets that feeling.

running the ac when you have this feeling?
it could be the ac compressor kicking on and off makes my car stutter when i lay into the gas or stomp on it, on my inlaws impreza his car will nose dive because his compressor is locking up

there are alot of thing that could be wrong. first go to autozone or shucks to see what the code is. than go from there. also just because your gauge says there is gas doesnt mean there is(learned this yesterday). you dont have a maf so i wouldnt be that. it might be your knock sensor going bad. makes the car run like ass. i hope you can get this figured out. i have a 01 be too.

A friend of mine had that happen to his VW GTi. It ended up being a huge-ass rip in the rubbery intake boot. That fixed it, but the problem’s back. Now, it’s most likely the fuel pump or the pressure regulator.

How violent is the pulsing? If the car is bucking like crazy, it could be your fuel pump. If it's not too bad, your fuel filter might just be old (I hope it's not the original 170000km filter). Run the code too.

One of my spark plugs constantly pops out and that causes symptoms like you're having. :lol:

How long did the car sit before you got your lic. back? Might just need something minor as a tune up or ....

Grafton - Im not running the A/C while its doing this it doesent even work actually

Airgne - Where I live i dont have an autozone or anything like that and what do you mean by the code? the car is also idleing low, or so i think, around 750rpm's, is this normal?

1996Battlewagon - The pulsing isent very violent at all but you can still feel it and the people with me could too. I'm not sure on how old the fuel filter is.


Okin DaVanh - The car was running i would say a good 500km's before i got my license back, but before those 500km's im not sure how long it was sitting, I bought it at an auction in late june and it wasent running then but we got that figured out.



On the way to work thismorning the engine light started to blink but eventually went to a solid light again. And it happened when i was on my way home for lunch too.

The engine light is on because there is something wrong with the car. The car's computer (ecu) sets an error "code", you need a special scanner to read it and it tells you what is wrong with the car. You will have to take it to a garage that can scan the ecu in order to find out what is going on with the car. If the light is blinking, that means it's serious and it should not be driven.

So far I've put plugs and wires and a new injector that was blocked. But the engine light is still on, I erased the codes twice with my OBD2 reader but its still there. Car is running like a top tho (knock on wood...-grain dash)
