View Full Version : Seat Belt Light

The seat belt blinking light is staying on constantly....seatbelts seem to be working ok, they retract all right, and hook into the locks correctly. Don't know what could be causing that to go off all the time.

Could be an old electrical connection... try cleaning up any of the grounds in the engine bay and cleaning the electrical switches in the car.

Ok will try and see what happens.

So far, nothing that I have done to the switches and grounds has worked. Guess I can try spraying the seat belts themselves and see if that does anything...if not, then I have no clue where to go next.

Have you checked the fuses? A fuse would cause the light to flash or illuminate...

09-15-2008, 12:28 PM
No, I haven't lol. Guess that's the next step. I wouldn't think that a fuse would cause just that light to be on....nothing else seems to be wrong in the car as far as electrical fuses goes.

If a fuse is blown it will illuminate the dashlight (or should)...most of these cars are built so that things can be broken but that doesn't make the car undriveable.

Let us know what you find!

Just to make sure have you checked the plug under your driver's seat to see if something happened to unplug the wiring harness for the seat belt sensor?

You could just have a seat belt sensor going out. Mine is flakey in cold weather. But my 98's seat belt indicator goes out automatically after a few seconds - I assume you have a newer Legacy? I think there is a way to disable the seat belt reminder altogether.

My subaru is a 93....and I did not know there was a sensor or whatever under the seat. Will have hubby check today, along with the fuses. I am not even sure my seat belts work properly, they dont' seem to lock when you pull on them really fast...like any other seatbelt system.

the seat belt sensor connections under the seat looks good. i did not see any fuses that pertain to the seat belt itself....so....next step lol.

And just another thought....my car does not chime when I open the door. Dont know if that would have anything to do with the seatbelt issue. I called the subaru dealer here and he said the blinking seatbelt light had to do with the latch on the rail above the door...since the belts are automatic on the rails.

Mine acts up too in colder weather. It'll go on and off as I drive, and sometimes not move properly.

Mine work properly, as far as I can tell, which is why I do not understand why the light is on at all.

I drive without my seatbelt all the time and mine shuts off after about 5 seconds.

The behaviour of the seatbelt reminder light changed from generation to generation. I think the BD/BG/BK was the least intrusive - shuts off after a few seconds.

You should wear your seat belt, by the way :)

How do I know what style my subaru is? Mine is a 1993 legacy wagon L with a sunroof and all the amenities.

What does a raised roof mean? I have ski racks and a sunroof.

Look at the roof on my car and compare it to yours.

Look at your VIN number and you can verify which one yours is. Its the 4th and 5th digit.

Says BJ in the VIN :) So now I just gotta figure out where to go from here regarding the light...stupid idiot lights.
