i want your car so bad. i think this would be better off in the members rides section, unless you have questions regarding you projet.

i will most likely run into problems and have questions

You have an SVX too? Sweet!

For the ultimate cheap fun power setup:

Mugged intake (free!!)
JDM TD04 turbo (90 degree inlet elbow)
Turboback exhaust (cheaper the better)
slanty turbo
MBC
Fuel cut defender to run 14-16 PSI (never had a knock issue)

That's what I had on my SS and it would walk away from a stock WRX . all told those mods cost me $450 or so

Nice car, enjoy it. BBS.legacycentral.org is a multitude of info

whats the max psi the stock turbo can push? well i have 2000 to spend on performance upgrades so im going to build this car hella sleeper cuz i dont like being targeted by cops in my loud "red" svx...

I would search over on Legacycentral bbs. It runs out of breath really quick and is a PITA to route to an intercooler since the outlet is at a 45 degree angle instead of a 90. If you can't find a JDM TD04 just get one from a WRX and buy/make the inlet piping. There are a ton of 'em over on NABISCO/Ebay cheep. Your turbo is also the stock one from a 15 year old car, time for an update.

I wouldn't go above 14 PSI without some Engine management, but with your budget you could afford to have some

i would go to http://www.boostplanet.com/ and get the TDO5H 20G. next i would get a good downpipe and finish the rest of the exhaust with a highflow cat and a apexi N1 muffler.

air, id rather not spend 1.2k on that turbo and just get the td04 on craigslsit right now for 110 bucks haha

did you read about how it is lifetime rebuild?

A1Fiddler
09-17-2008, 09:04 PM
Yeah, but how many TD04s could you go through before you hit $1.2k?

Airgne

Yeah, but how many TD04s could you go through before you hit $1.2k?

i was going to use that turbo when i get my ss. 1.2k isnt that much for a turbo with lifetime rebuild.

I'd avoid an TD04 myself, and I've currently got 2 of them.

TD05 FTW, even at $1.2k. The TD04 is almost too small for a 2.0 engine, you're going to have problems keeping your target boost at redline on a 2.2.

please help someone :-( my car was put all back together with new headgsskates and now it wont start!!!! timnig is right, pulled out 2 plugs and its sparkin, it smells like fuel is bein supplied. when trying to start it, it clicks about 7 times and fires one time and clicks about another 7 and then fires one time.....

Airgne
09-20-2008, 09:13 AM
your timing is off. you might think its right, but i would start there.
did you touch the map sensor? i know you had the intake off. did you drop it. those things are sensative as all hell.

rice or die
09-20-2008, 01:38 PM
all marks were lined up when the belt was put on... notch to notch on all three of them...

well the map was running with no filter for a very long time. but i put one on and cleaned it with maf cleaner

well the spark plugs are working fine cuz i took them out and watched them spark, and when i took them out they smell like gas bad.
these are new plugs and on cylinder 3 its already black! the 3 others are still clean tips

i switched injectors 1 and 3 and nothing happend, i just switched 2 and 4 and havent seen what happend yet. i also cant hear the fuel pump turn on... there is no sound from it at all inside that car even with the back seat down

since it acts like before i fixed the gaskets there was a time when it did fire up and i did test drive it. the shop tech had me start it and it started and died, then he told me i have to give it gas so i started it then gave it gas then he said"its not firing on all cylinders" so he reved it up a little more and then it had a cleen idle.... then drove it for like 1 min, let the car sit for 2 weeks and it will not start at all then thats when i started doing the new headgaskets

any ideas from the info given?

Is the vacuum booster hooked up?

Does the pedal just go to the floor, or is it rock hard?

i fixed it, vacum hose was on backwards. my car runs like a champ now!!! sweet and only 800$ in....

Jeez, 800 bucks in total? I'm looking at an SS in Puyallup right now actually, and it's $5k... but it has a rebuilt engine... and new axles... and brakes... and wheels... and struts... and it's the cleanest thing on 4 wheels I've seen in a while .

rice or die
09-23-2008, 10:32 PM
yeh 800 total!! nice huh

lol i know that legacy ss you speak of... ive seen it in person, the guy selling it is a cop, he thinks only the 93's came turbo and that its called "subaru legacy lsi sport sedan" its not an lsi and sport sedan...

Cool, glad to see you got things worked out.

FYI TD04 Pushes a max ~20psi. I say 'about 20' because subaru's used 4 or 5 different versions. My tuner and I were trying to diagnose a boost control problem, so we wired my wastegate actuator closed and went for a drive, max boost was 20.1 PSI and the Cruck pulled like a Fighter Jet.

Have you considered a VF34, VF39, or VF22? I know people autocrossing with those on 2.0L engines, and they all give a solid punch with little to no lag as long as the car's still running a TMIC of some flavor.

rice or die
09-27-2008, 06:03 AM
progress on my project includes: 2.5 inch boost guage, and wrx scoop. wrx tmic with hks ssqv and td04 turbo (only 6k miles) oh and a huge intake in the fenderwell

rad rex
09-27-2008, 07:09 PM
He's on the right track with the turbo, they are much cheaper and anything up to 16 PSI on that turbo can be done safely without any EM. With alot of boost comes alot more $$$$ and a bigger risk of destroying the motor

You will need a fuel cut defender if you want to run any more than 12 psi on that turbo.

Did you mug the intake yet?

rice or die
09-28-2008, 12:26 AM
yeh i plan on 15 or 16... whats the max the injectors can handle?

as for intake i didnt use a "mug" but i used 3 inch piping, heres a pic of my intake

getrid of that damn BOV. you are doing nothing but loseing power. it takes you more time to get back into boost that your car is slow with it. i got to go to pep boys on south hill 2marrow, wanna meet up? send me a pm

I would look it up on the Legacycentral BBS, but if you are thinking about running more than 16PSI you need some EM

Bdubs
10-02-2008, 09:51 PM
Looks good.
You are going to need a MBC, Fuel Cut Defender, and upgraded rails to run your boost goal. Possibly a Walbro fuel pump as well.
Otherwise you are just running wastegate pressure, which is ~9psi, your max boost would probably be about 14psi, but you'll hit fuel cut before that without proper EM.

I'm just running wastegate right now, because I don't feel like blowing any seals. I just can't see me ruining an engine with only 93K miles on it.
