I know, its a rough start, but this just means I can only get better from here

To date, I have no mods. (Yes, the hub-caps are cheesy, but my wife got them for me when I got the car, and I was so delighted that she would even try to do something nice for one of my hobbies, that I just couldn't say no...and 'til I get some wheels, they're stayin')

OK, if you have eaten recently, you may want to come back in a little bit before continuing

Updated 27 September '08:

Well, I finally got my JDM headlights, fogs (thanks Andivic) and my JDM grill (Thanks RadeOn)! I also fixed the cracked bumper (although I haven't completed sanding it or painted it yet.) I'm so stoked!!

Before:

After:

As you can see, I have some serious body-alignment issues...it'll look so much better once I get that ironed out

Hmm...I shall try this "photobucket" ... opinions may change a bit when the larger pics are up, but thanks for the kind words. I've really come to like this car, and can't wait to put on the new stuff I ordered.

Aha...all hail photobucket! As you can see....LOTS of work to do. I went to the local Subaru dealership to get a quote on replacement body parts...well, don't think I'll be going that route

You should do a light sand on the wheel covers and spray them bronze, then sand and spray the steel wheels a flat black.

I may have a set of later model USDM GT headlights you could slot in for the older 1-piece bits... most people get JDM projectors but I will have them off the car in a couple of weeks.

That front lip is a easy fit, you could DIY home Depot lip it too.

RadeOn has a number of items that would fit your car nicely - a nice JDM grill with a red L7 emblem.

I will have two stock GT axle-back exhausts too soon... I have one right now, just have to dig it out of storage. :D

funny you should mention that, I actually did buy the Grill from RadeOn (along with the tweeters), and I just got the JDM Headlights, Foglights & Side Markers from Andivic  I was actually thinkin' about the GT 2-piece assy's though, before I got the JDMs.

I gotta see about fixin' my bumper (gonna see if I can learn to work w/fiberglass)

Once I recover from my recent spending, I wanna see if I can find some OEM sideskirts & front & rear lips.

Front cover isn't fiberglass. Poly Eurethane (sp) (Plastic) And would be better off plastic welded.

I have the same color

What is plastic welding, and how do you do it?

isle 6 'eh? think I'm gonna go check that out tomorrow. Tell you what, I'll trade you a 2/3 used bottle of SEAFOAM, and some Chrome-ish hubcaps for your rims  ... as for the outback bumper, I personally think that looks a lot better on your car than mine would.

haha. marc i wish it were that simple to sell you those, but i would need something in cash form. as for the bumper i think it would look good on your car.

I know man, and I wish I could. I don't disagree that the Outback bumper would look good on my L, especially if/when I lower it, but for my own taste, I'd like to stick with my bumper 'til I can get a GT bumper

I went to autozone this morning and picked up some plastic-welder...currently in process of tryin to fix front bumper. Goin' pretty good so far (waiting for it to cure) I think I'll wait to post pics 'til I get all my JDM stuff in for the front' end. Should be end of this week, or sometime next week.

good job marc. i just got my jdm tail lights, B4 emblem and maybe some tein flex's for my car. woot!!! i need to update my members rides bad. alot of new stuff.

DonMarcoPolo
09-17-2008, 07:36 PM
Well, F**kin'-A, wouldn't you know that while I was workin on my front end this morning, the mailman came right up to me and handed me a package. My JDM grill & door tweet (Thanks RadeOn!!!!)

On the downside, I discovered why my drivers side doesn't exactly line up (bumper, headlight, hood)...evidently whoever had this before me definitely smacked into something really good...the very front of the left framerail is slightly crumpled in (about 8-10 inches back from bumper mount), so it brings the left side of the bumper down about an inch...ARGH!!. How the hell do I fix that!?!?!

Back on the upside...that plastic-welder is DA SHIT!! gonna sand everything tomorrow and have everything painted by the time I get the rest of my parts in...should be a night and day difference on the front end from my 1st post

I meant the soldering kit, not the compound/glue. But hey, whatever works.

Got pics of it during construction?

Your Legacy is a great base to build upon. My Legacy used to look identical to yours!

You got the best color & in my opinion one of the best years.

Yup, to be honest, when I saw yours, I said 'HEY, THAT GUYS STARTED OUT JUST LIKE MINE!' ... before I saw your car, I kinda made a small list of things I wanted to do, and then saw that you did most of them, so I was able to see exactly what mine would look like. Made it a lot easier for me to commit to buying parts. You helped a lot and didn't even know it

And I got the flag in the next town over for $16

+1 welcome!

I agree with the above statement. The metallic red is a gorgeus color.

Thanks!

I've got tons of small chips in the bumper & front of hood...whats everybody's thought on the best way to clean it up (cuz I'm not gonna repaint the car 'til its done....which is gonna be a LONG time), because I do like the color myself and would like it to look its best 'pre-paint job'.

RadeOn

Chips in the bumper - are very common in this color. To do it right - you need to strip all the bumper :)
To do a temporary band-aid that looks lood from distance - just peel any already peeling paint, sand down the base, put some primer/adhesive on the plastic, spray paint (paintscratch.com sells it, good match), sand, clearcoat a few times and polish.

ok. cool start, but, what we all REALLY want to know: what is hiding under the cover behind your wagon? what is it? huh? huh? huh? secret? huh? what is it? is it cool? c'mon!

 Took me a minute to figure out what you were talking about. That wagon next to mine is my neighbors L wagon...although the body is more intact than mine, that thing sucks worse than mine does. Behind it (under the cover) is an even older Audi wagon that isn't worth as much as 3 of my 4 steel wheels (minus the hub-caps)...seriously that thing sucks...that cover is the best thing its got goin' for it.

...and no, I haven't invited my neighbor to the forum..she has no interest in legacies, or the community. . .we'll see though after mine starts to come together :)

bummer....my popcorn wasn't really that good either. microwaved. bet you thought i was kidding about the whole popcorn plunging incident. i was really hoping for something SICK, like a 95 imprezza with a rwd small block 283 conversion or something....hmmmmm...small block subie, the possibilities are endless when you have the right tools!
