I need some inspiration. Err Some help rather. New to the Subaru brand. Currently driving a 1997 Legacy Brighton Wagon, Automatic Transmission, EJ22 motor. Can Somebody please tell me modifications that i can do to improve my car's power. Starting with small mods, cheap mods, and then the more expensive, more cost effective methods. But I don't want to swap the motor, although it's not out of the question.

The EJ22 is strong enough that you can turbo it at modest boost levels, then it makes a little power. However, you're going to be stuck down below about 145 hp until you do something drastic. If you were to buy and install a turbo kit, you could have spent the money on a swap instead. Plus, your transmission probably won't handle turbo power for very long before it kicks the bucket.
Though, for small increases, you can do an ebay intake, an exhaust manifold, or something similar. The 2.2 at least needs new heads to make real power though, even if you turbo it.

I would definitely get a new intake, There's one from Cosmo Racing that will fit your car, its 110$ shipped I believe. Another cheap mod is a lightened crank pulley, Medieval Motorsports has one for 60$ shipped. You could also have an exhaust shop put on a new exhaust system, that would compliment the intake as well.
As far as a turbo, it is generally better to just swap the motor for an STI block because the internal components of the stock ej22 will limit your boost somewhat. The swap is also price - competitive with a turbo kit install.

grounding kit reguardless of what your doing, smooths out idle and on an AT might help with the shifting.

It's pointless to mod your ej22 with 4eat tranny. Take it from me, get a swap, or do body and suspension. You wont go "fast" with that drivetrain.
