how big can i go on a 98 GT

i have a 1998 GT limted sedan BD i think, and i was wondering how wide of tires i could go with NO rubbing on 16 or 17's

would u be able to tell a handling difference between 16 and 17's or should i just go with 16's and put like 225's on it and would they fit

i am planing on lowering it about an inch with H&R springs but thats about it for lowering
