How can I make it work? What year 6MT has the same spline has my axles? Is there a front LSD that I can swap into one that will work with my axles? Is there a 3.90 rear LSD that will work with my axles? I need all info on this as I can get.

What would be the point in doing this?

Mmmm light duty engine powering heavy duty drivetrain.

I wouldn't worry about a 6 speed unless you're putting down serious hp/tq.

You can go with a jdm v.2 tranny like i have and get a 4.11 lsd rear end and bolt it up. quite a bit cheaper and can handle 300chp reliably.

I will be doing a motor swap just so yall know. And I'm looking for an EJ trans that can handle a lot of torque and I need a trans that itself has a lot of low end torque. I was gonna go with the 97-98 JDM WRX 4.444 5MT but it would be way too hard to get the gears for it in the future so I plugged in the numbers for the 6MT and it had the same low end torque for first gear. Top speed for it in first gear at 7000rpms was around 42mph. I need a trans that is equal to that or pretty damn close to it. So back to original topic.

Same question...what's your objective with this car? You made it sound like you're gonna be drag racing it being concerned with what speed and rpm you would be at in first gear. If you're planning on making it a daily driver, your best bet is the v.2 jdm trans blackgtbeauty mentioned.

Think about the 6mt though. How much is your entire car itself worth in comparison to the tranny alone? You would need a new clutch (pull style), all necessary hydraulics, all four axles, tranny crossmember to fit your car, tranny mounts, shifter linkage w/ shifter, DCCD, and the transmission. With the axles though, you would need the hubs too, which means brakes, wheels, etc.

Stick with a 5mt, and upgrade to ppg gears. I think that would be your best bet since you're concerned with the tranny being able to withstand x amount of torque.

Its gonna be an offroader/boat hauler/DD. I know how much its gonna cost to swap it in. I just need to know what all I can swap in it to make it work with my car or if I have to swap in other things. How much are the hubs and can I still use 15" wheels with them? Still need to know about the rear diff. Just so yall know I'm looking at 300whp and 330wtq with an 18G turbo.

For a full swap you'll need the hubs axles, transmission, driveshaft (I think an auto driveshaft will work), and R180 rear end. DCCD controller is optional. With the R180 hubs, you'll need to use rear brembo brakes or 2 pot brakes mind you.

You can also try the cheap version, reusing your axles (need the axle stubs to be on the 6 speed), using an R160 WRX rear end and retain your rear hubs (I THINK this only works on the 05 6speed as it has the same 1.1:1 step down, double check on what year this will work though, otherwise you can modify a R160 rear end to work by changing the ring and pinion). I know a couple of WRX locals that did their 6 speed swap that way.

If you're getting the hubs, make sure its the 04 hubs to keep the 5x100 pattern (if you don't want to change wheels that is).

Here's a good place to start.

There's reports that the GT spec B uses a hybrid r180->r160 axles, so you can use those with the r180 rear end and still keep your rear hubs.

How hard is it to swap out the hubs? I need all the info I can get so that when I get ready to do everything at once I'm ready and have all the parts. Not gonna spoil anything else about the mods but when I'm done my BG will be insane.

The only hard part is the balljoint...getting it out of the control arm usually requires a good amount of force or a puller (rent from autozone). Also, plan on getting new ball joints because most times your old ones are rusted stuck in the hub and are too much trouble to get them out.

I may just swap out all 4 hubs. What year hubs should I be looking at so that I can use 15" wheels? Also can I still use my old brake equipment but of course installing some dual pots.

Subarus that use 5x114 hubs don't roll on 15" wheels.
You'll need to buy aftermarket.

Seriously - a much cheaper and less complicated alternative would be to use PPG gears for 1st and 2nd in your existing 5MT.

^ or just buy a damn used SUV.. they are pretty much giving them away at this point in time..

Ol' McDonald wants to "show the world what a Subaru can do!"...from one of his first posts.

Subaru FTW, aint no other brand as leggo as this, i thought honda was leggo but understanding subbies, you can make any car into what you want.

5spd is weak, 6spd is stronger.
My theory is based on what i see, i know subaru racing cars that been through 3 gearboxes and they next mod they did was to buy a Evo.

I want a 6spd swap also!!!

Like I said you can use the same hubs that you have now, but you'll have to go with the hybrid route and not the full drivetrain swap.

Just read that link. That's the master list for anyone looking to swap the 6speed into a 5x100 hubbed subaru.

Wait, huh? :smt017

If you're going to reach 300whp, I think it would be very wise upgrade to Brembos. You're already getting the hubs, you'll need to get the brakes to fit them anyways.

You might as well just go get an 05+ wrecked STi, and swap everything over. Or, better yet, just go buy an STi.

Is there a hub I can use that is on 5-100 that would work with the 6MT?

Absolutely. The R-170. Its between the 160-180

We already told you roughly what you'd need to do.

Thanks. Sorry was tired when I posted. I'll talk to my guy and see what he says and how much I'm looking at spending.

Seriously, if your going to turn your Outback into a tow vehicle, go with the PPG straight cuts. Your 5MT is already strong (stronger then the longer ratio 5MT in the WRX) and the 6MT is going to be expensive: both to buy and to install. The straight cut gears will make simply make things stronger and with them, your 5MT should take what ever you through at it.

It ain't gonna cost much since I was going to do the engine and trans swap at the same time. I got a buddy who owns a performance shop and I was going to give him a hand with the swaps so that my Leggy don't feel so unloved by having other guys put their dirty hands all over her sexyness.  Also I'm going to get custom hybrid axles from DSS as well as a drive shaft.

I won't tease yall with it when the time comes. I'll just post up pics after the swaps are done along with the initial dyno chart. Just look for them in my members ride page.
